Even though I disagree with it, I see no reason to get upset about it.

I don't believe that for one second. I think if a public figure was saying all Christians should die, you wouldn't think it would be out of line to question whether he should keep his job. Saying that everyone who lives a certain way should die is a pretty outlandish statement to make regardless of what that lifestyle is; it's significantly more outlandish when dealing with a lifestyle that is largely becoming accepted by the majority of the country. Asking whether someone who makes such a statement should be in PR is a legitimate question. Your contention that raising the issue as gays not respecting other opinions is absolutely ridiculous.

The Constitution does not hinge upon what is popular.

I wish that was being maintained as truth. In the courts (including SCOTUS) interpreting the Constitution is hinging upon changing popular standards.

What's right isn't always popular, and what's popular isn't always right.
