I'm not sure how wax would protect from someone scraping a sharp object across your car.

I'm having a hard time finding reviews of body shops in my area I can take this too. I'm going to go by one today and see what their estimate is.

My first car was a sleek black shiny Mits Eclipse 15 yrs ago. One week later it got a big ass door ding on driver's side. Haven't bought a new car since - stress free, no worries. You can ding and scratch my old cars now all you like.

Sorry to hear that buddy. I know exactly how you feel.

Just bought myself a 2007 Camry SE. I parked the fathest part of the parking lots at work. A couple hrs later a black ass guy pulled in his half broken down car next to mine. His parking skill should be shot because both of his tires were crossing the line. I toll him that's very bad parking and he toll me to move my car. I decided right away that his head is too thick to even bother so I moved my car. Not gonna take any chances with my new baby.

Yesterday I saw a guy was swiving through traffic without carring for any1. So I decided to test how far he was willing to go. A SUV infront of his lane and the only way for him to continue his rage is to change into my lane. He was speeding up and I speeded up too. Now the space between my car and the SUV infront of him is too small for his car to pass. I guess the damn guy didn't want to live so he decided to cut me anyway. If I didn't slame on the break, it would have been a huge crash and my car would have been totalled and I might be in the hospitol cling on to my life.

Bought some "clear bra" put in the front to protect from airborn rocks on the road (my old camry really took a beating from these rocks). Now I mostly afraid something like this "Keyed" or some damn ass king my side. I already got a ding but it's not very bad.Q]

I wanted one of these "Bra" type coverings for my Mazda 6 until I saw that these actually cause more damage then they prevent.

1-- When driving at high speeds they flap/vibrate against your car's paint even when adjusted properly.
2-- They trap dirt and water
3-- It's better/cheaper in the long run to buy a whole new bumper 5 years down the road if you're that worried **LOL**

So if *most*............. (I would be the first to wonder how it would be wrong to go with a new car considering warranty, typically better interest rates, better reliability in the short term, etc. etc.)............would agree that used (or should I say "slightly" used?) is better then is it better to buy private party or better to buy like a "certified"used????

(I've seen some 2 & 3 year old cars that dealerships can literally make look like they're brand-spankin' new. Even down to the engine compartment!)

I just got my fully loaded 2007 mazada 3 with 1.7miles on it.... I saw one the second day during lunch at work... very small... but big too me.

luckily a quick buff with some wax took care of most of it.

Best bet is to buy from a private individual and take it to your mechanic to make sure of no potential issues (at least for me, I have a good mechanic).

I was out on the road today and I think I might know what happened. Of course, this in no way justifies vandalizing anyone's vehicle (if I see that activity, I would report it and I have reported similar instances like where someone backs into someone and takes off). The problem with SUVs is there are a lot of soccer moms with road rage and no pressing place to be, which is a horrible combination for a rush hour traffic situation. I was behind such an individual today, I have no clue why she was messing with me (not slamming the brakes but waiting forever at stop signs and going 5 mph under the posted 35 mph limit). I didn't tailgate or anything, but I think a lot of people driving similar vehicles are at times problematic on the road. Again, no justification at all to do that.

Also, I always collect carts on my way into the store unless I'm in a big hurry. I've seen the wind carry carts across the lot slamming into cars at high rates. Be part of the solution.

What do you mean you "might know what happened'? Are you referring to me, that I drove a certain way to cause this?

OP, I know how you feel. When I bought my brand new SUV, some FATASS fvckers too stupid to know how to open the door, ding the door of my SUV.

No matter how hard you try, you WILL encounter stupid morons that just don't care about others' properties.

The other day, I ended up giving a nice ding and scratch to the door of a jaguar, that was most likely owned by a doctor. This was in the hospital parking lot, where spaces are a very, very precious commodity. Even though the spaces were delineated with double lines, forcing a 6-12 inch buffer zone between spots, the douche still managed to park the car diagonally, with the right rear wheel over BOTH lines, and pretty damn deep into the spot. The other side, was a huge SUV. I parked cleanly in the middle of the spot, which was possible only because I have a small car. There was no way I could get out of my car without bumping his door. I tried my best to do it gently, but it got dinged.

I feel no guilt about it.

First of all, I am driving a SMALL SUV <the crossover type>, not the big huge ones such as Hummer and the likes. See the thread about "What kind of vehicle you are driving".

Second, I parked my SUV right in the middle and plenty of spaces for anyone to open their doors. Get the story straight. So either they are too darn fat or too stupid to know how to park and how to open the doors.

Just love your attitude of "no guilt about it". Karma is the bitch, you wouldn't sing the same song if someone damage your properties.

My wifes Monte Carlo SS was keyed by some punk kid when we lived at an apartment complex. The kid was caught doing it to other cars. The father was crying when he heard how much he would have to pay to fix it. Fortunatly I have USAA. USAA first fixed the car and then went after the father for the money. That family had many many problems. The kid and his brother have been in juvi a few times before and the father seemed like the abusive type.

I feel your pain. I've got a BLACK 1995 BMW 540i that is in amazing condition for its age. I am so paranoid about parking it.

The dent frustrated me, but it wasn't that big of a deal. This pisses me off to no end though. It's not the damage as much as it's just being pissed that someone would do this. The fact that some people have no respect for others, and like to tear people down just because they have something nice. Damaging someone's property when they aren't around has to be one of the most cowardly, cheap, punk things someone can do.

Some mofo stole my £800 bike 2 weeks ago :(. I'm currently riding a beater and it isn't fun to commute in it :(. I feel your pain.

Someone parked so close to my driver side that I couldn't even get in to my car, I had to get in through the passenger side. I left an empty beer can on the offending persons radio antenna.

Just though I'd spill my observations on door dings that some might want to take into account.

Fist thing would be windy days. Are you parking where the wind can grab a car door out of someones grip and slam it into your car? How about blowing a shopping car downhill towards your car? If its blustery I park a car so people parking next to me have to open the doors into the wind.

Second thing would be not parking like someone whos really trying to keep from being digned. Parking diagonally across spaces or edging over spaces into the next slot draws a long a scrutiny and people are unsymptahetic if something were to 'accidently happn'

Third, Is the car so clean its out of place, like people with weirdly white teeth. This is fine in rural areas but in areas with a lot of foot traffic this draws attention, some might be appreciated some might be unwanted. Gotta deal with both kinds. I leave a nice coat of dust on it If I am expecting to park downtown or at the metro.

Parking in front of a lot means heavy foot traffic, lazy SUV drivers with big doors and higher chances that kids will be unmounting from those SUV doors. Swinging doors and kids are asking for trouble.

I just avoid coups and two door cars all together, or situations where both driver side doors happen to be pointed towards a spot.

Parking in the rear of the lot is also asking to get clipped or swiped by unobservant drivers that are cutting through the lot or not paying attention. I saw one time where two people hit head on in an empty parking lot, crazy.

"Black ass guy"? You "toll" him?

You see a guy "Swiving" through traffic, without "carring" for anyone, so you decide to test him, corner him, and you say HE is the one that doesnt want to live?

Maybe if you didn't decide to test him, you wouldnt have had to "slame" on the "break", and you wouldnt have to worry about ending up in the "hospitol".

HIS head is too thick? :disgust:

It's like I went to sleep, and woke up in retard land.

what side of the bed did U wake up on? Seem like Ur head is still in Ur ass. I'm not the guy swiving through traffic. Every1 R too chicken to do anything so I want to see how crazy he was. But I wasn't ready to put my new car on the line so I break.

I am sorry I stood up and toll that guy his parking was bad. Unlike you crawling under your bed n hide, I attempt.

Y don't U go back to Ur butt hole and stop speaking up.

Let me educate you a little here.

1) They don't flap because they glued on. But I think this glue is water activated or soap but a little washing removes it while the rain doesn't do anything to it.
2) Trap dirt... no, because it glued on. NO space for the dirty to go into.
3) I still can buy new bumper if I choose. I paid $60 for my entire set. If it protect the paint more then 1 year, it's worth it. Anyway, so far it is working beautifully. I haven't seen any new chips. Also from personal experience, the original paint is the best.

I already removed once. At first, the covered up part looks like it is newer then the exposed part. But after the car wash, both part matches up perfectly.

But anyway, I am trying new things to protect my baby :) Only time will tell if it trully work. But at least I have a choice to get new bumper instead of a 'must get new bumper'.

Oh and...sorry I keyed your car. I was having a really bad day.

Anyway, I backed straight up and right into a smaller boulder and absolutely scratched the sh!t out of my rear bumper. Got a quote tonight for $660 all said and one with a new bumper. :(

I feel your pain!

I backed our 04 Pilot into a rock, cost $700 for a new bumper. Then about 4 months later my wife backed it into my old car and punched a hole in the new bumper. The hole is still there, the $700 is still in our bank account!
