When I have to take the cars into downtown DC or the Metro I kept them dirty. I only waxed them when they'll be putting around suburbia. A waxed car door is like a kick me sign to the boobs of society.

isn't there a coating that you can get from the dealer than prevents you from having to wax for 5 years or so? it might be worth it, but i doubt it can prevent key marks. buying used really takes the stress off.

good luck with it.

No, the dealer coatings are just wax, nothing lasts 5 years. I was getting ready to put a quality waxing on it this weekend (Klasse All-in-one followed by Sealant Glaze, maintained with Aqua Wax spray wax), that lasts 4-6 months. That just protects from the elements though.

The normal wear and tear a car gets doesn't bother me as much. I can deal with a lot of that with good paint care, but that is just the way it goes on the road. This just bothers me because some ass did this on purpose. Some jerk with nothing better to do that was jealous because someone else has something nice had to do this. That is what pisses me off more than anything. And when I think of the fact that the person got away with it, that pisses me off even more.

No matter how hard you try, you WILL encounter stupid morons that just don't care about others' properties.

The other day, I ended up giving a nice ding and scratch to the door of a jaguar, that was most likely owned by a doctor. This was in the hospital parking lot, where spaces are a very, very precious commodity. Even though the spaces were delineated with double lines, forcing a 6-12 inch buffer zone between spots, the douche still managed to park the car diagonally, with the right rear wheel over BOTH lines, and pretty damn deep into the spot. The other side, was a huge SUV. I parked cleanly in the middle of the spot, which was possible only because I have a small car. There was no way I could get out of my car without bumping his door. I tried my best to do it gently, but it got dinged.

I feel no guilt about it.

Yea, that's what I thought. Sometimes I wonder why I even bother paying for anything other than basic insurance that is required. What's the point when they just raise your rates or drop you when you claim something?

Ya, its pretty paradoxical. I carry full coverage, but with the highest deductables on both. I only plan on using that policy if the car gets stolen, really, really trashed, I get into a situation where I couldn't have avoided the accident even though it wasn't really my fault, or I wrap it around a tree. My insurance would undoubtedly go up, but I couldnt afford to replace a car out of pocket.

So I'm reading that insurance companies won't raise your rates for a single comprehensive claim. We've been with this company 7 years and never made a claim, so I think I'm going to do it if the cost to fix is a decent amount over the deductable. The decuctable is $500, so I'll likely use the insurance.

New cars stink. I will never buy a new one. slightly used FTW. Save a lot of money and not as paranoid about keeping it perfect :)

torture how?

I have no clue, I was just following Aflac's lead:)

People do suck. It seems that everyone's passive-aggressive these days. Too antisocial to deal with their problems face-to-face, but mad and immature enough to key cars, poison pets, pour weed killer on lawns...

OMG that is so true.

I am intrigued by your ideas and would like to subscribe to your newsletter.

I just went out to look the car over again to see how bad it is. You can see in the picture the scratch is in two parts. I can feel both with my fingernail, so they are both deep. The bigger one I can actually see some of the bare metal showing. That first part of the scratch is around 10-12" long, and I'd say 8" of it has bare metal showing. Someone REALLY tried to key the hell out of it. I'm guessing they used a screwdriver or knife or something, because it goes deep. This was no casual walkby, they were meaning to cause some good damage.

I swear everytime I look at it I get more and more pissed. The fact that the useless punk that did this is walking around tonight with the smug satisfaction that he did this and is likely bragging to his piece of crap punk friends that"showed some jerk with a new SUV" pisses me off to no end. I swear I want to setup a sting operation and catch some punk doing this.

Ha. I don't even have a new car and people kicked the crap out of it.

I got side swipe on the bumper from a guy reversing out of a parking spot. It was my neighbor too. Went to bed - woke up the next day and there it was. Of course, he never said a damn thing.

Then some illegal immigrant decided to go 40mph over steep train tracks with his landscaping truck and launched a rock right at my wind shield.

Then when I got my new 400 dollar tires, some one decided it would be cool to shove a large thumb tac into the side wall of one of my tires.

This is all in a 4 year period.

I hate that. No consideration of other peoples property! Like those people who tail gate you for going to slow in 4 inches of snow on the road. I would be a nervous wreck with a new car. And they actually try to swirve to get around you. NUTTS.

Yes, because japanese cars are magically immune from keys. I had a two japanese cars before this.

Did they get keyed? Did they have cancer?

Well at least we know Japanese cars don't get cancer... ;)

I bought a brand new 2006 Mazda 3 S Sedan back in March.

About two months ago, I'm getting out of my night class and walking to my parking lot. As I get closer, I see a bunch of crap on my front end.

Someone decided to scrape my entire passengers side of the front. So now, there is several deep scratches with several scuffs. There was one gash that dented in the plastic. I call up the police, they file a report, give me some line of BS.

For me, the cost to repair it was 450, while my deductible is 500 with Geico. So I decided to screw it, I busted out the touch up paint and cover it all up. I'm still pretty sour but that's the chance we take for buying new cars. Fvck it, I still love my car and I'm keeping it for quite awhile.

Yea that sucks, that's why I usually stick with clunkers, but my girlfriend just got a pretty new 05 Vibe, I'm just waiting for her to freak out as it starts to accumulate wear and tear.

No, but both got side swiped in parking lots.

Both my Japanese cars (Nissans) would get scratches if you looked at them funny. I love Nissans, but they have some super thin paint.

Sorry to hear that buddy. I know exactly how you feel.

Just bought myself a 2007 Camry SE. I parked the fathest part of the parking lots at work. A couple hrs later a black ass guy pulled in his half broken down car next to mine. His parking skill should be shot because both of his tires were crossing the line. I toll him that's very bad parking and he toll me to move my car. I decided right away that his head is too thick to even bother so I moved my car. Not gonna take any chances with my new baby.

Yesterday I saw a guy was swiving through traffic without carring for any1. So I decided to test how far he was willing to go. A SUV infront of his lane and the only way for him to continue his rage is to change into my lane. He was speeding up and I speeded up too. Now the space between my car and the SUV infront of him is too small for his car to pass. I guess the damn guy didn't want to live so he decided to cut me anyway. If I didn't slame on the break, it would have been a huge crash and my car would have been totalled and I might be in the hospitol cling on to my life.

Bought some "clear bra" put in the front to protect from airborn rocks on the road (my old camry really took a beating from these rocks). Now I mostly afraid something like this "Keyed" or some damn ass king my side. I already got a ding but it's not very bad.

I bought a new IS300 ( a car I had always wanted to have), and within 4 months I got sideswiped from somebody speeding out of a U-turn. The car just doesn't feel the same to me anymore (the new wore off with the new doors/paint). I took a huge hit on value just driving it off the lot, then an equally large decrease with the body work (lucky for diminished value recovery claims). I think in larger cities it is impossible to keep a daily driver looking nice. There are too many cars and too many people that just don't care. I grew up in a much smaller city (about 30k people) and never had any problems keep my cars looking nice. I'd say close to 70% of the cars I see in Houston, new or old, have some sort of dent/scratch/crack.

"Black ass guy"? You "toll" him?

You see a guy "Swiving" through traffic, without "carring" for anyone, so you decide to test him, corner him, and you say HE is the one that doesnt want to live?

Maybe if you didn't decide to test him, you wouldnt have had to "slame" on the "break", and you wouldnt have to worry about ending up in the "hospitol".

HIS head is too thick? :disgust:

It's like I went to sleep, and woke up in retard land.

Someone please revoke this idiot's license before he kills someone.

Bottom line. They are hunks of metal that take you from point A to point B.

Oh, and you'll get over it.

I'll nitpick with that... :p Cars aren't even an asset. They are only depreciating tools.

I buy new, because I like tools with warranties. And I like tools that I know for certain the usage history.

There is something to that, but the uncertainty of how the car was treated is factored into the depreciation. If you know cars, you can make a pretty good judgement about how it was treated just by looking at it, and asking a few technical questions to the owner.

Warranties are good, but you can get them with used cars as well.
