Ok I was talked into buying an iMac by my kids. It was 1799.99 with apple extended care warrantee. What a POS!!

Here are the specs
700mhz PPC chip
DVD burner
15" LCD
40 gig hd

This machine is the slowest PC I have ever used. Opening and closing programs and switching between them is slower than my first computer a 200 mhz pentium. Os X completly sucks. No way to easily switch between the programs like a task bar. The "dock" is not the same sorry. No tabs for each window in explorer like the task bar either. I'm running 10.1.2 BTW. Sometimes when typing in this forum the text simply disappears for about 5 seconds fromthe massage text window.

Don't believe the HYPE!! It's ove priced slow garbage compared to any PC running a modern OS.

Edit I would return it but have no will power.

I figured I could have gotten a much faster PC with a 15" LCD for around $900 if I built it myself.

The computer can only be as good as the person operating it.

Hey, if I had loads of extra money I would get one of those new imacs because they are beautiful. I wouldn't actually use it... just stare at it sometimes :D

How old are your kids? Would they be bowled over by an aluminum case with window and neon lights inside or something like that? What tickled their fancy most about that iMac? Perhaps you could build a PC with a fancy case and use the balance of $1,800.00 for a REALLY huge monitor and/or speakers and sub. That ought to sway them, no?

What kind of mental conversation goes on when purchasing an I-Mac?

Left brain: Ugh, it's overpriced and too slow.
Right brain: But look, it's pretty!
Left: So? We can buy a P4 or Athlon XP for the same price that will dust the floor with it!
Right: But it's blue! Blue like the sky! Blue like our blanky when we were little! And it burns DVDs! We can make beautiful movies!
Left: How can we play games on it?
Right: It's so pretty! Look at the lines, it's like a giant, blue, booby! And we can get an I-Pod and listen to music!
Left: It's slow! And it's 1800 bucks!
Right: Boobies!
Left: All right, all right. I see your point. :p
