No, you can have complete control by just controlling the rotor speed of each of the rotors. There are some restrictions for which rotors are rotating in the same direction, but as long as you've sorted that out correctly you can do whatever you want.
This is just a more complicated quadrotor.
I saw that a few days ago, pretty neat machine.
Although a triceracoptor would be neat too.
