nirvana comes to mind... along with green day, tool, stone temple pilots...

btw, you sound as bad as a 12 year old girl liking n'siync because they are "so hot"

FYI....in case you didn't know...Linkin Park's first album was not Hybrid Theory.

They've already released a few slowish rock type albums. Interested, it's under the same name. They sucked. ;-(

Just some trivia

Unfortunetly bands like Nirvana and STP will probably be a footnote to crap rap/pop as the music of the 90's...

The way i see it todays music is in BIG, BIG trouble... We havent had anything that defines a great band for about 8 years now... In the past there has always been bands/artists which led the way...

Yardbirds
Beatles
Stones
Mr. God Hendrix
Zeppelin
Aerosmith
Guns n' Roses
Nirvana

etc... I am talking about the "popular" legend bands now... of course there were plenty of lesser known who are amazing (SRV, Knopfler, Trower, Satriani, etc). The last good thing i heard was Red Hot Chili Peppers... around 1997, Blood Sugar Sex Magic album, but it still doesnt come close to something of the "Electric Ladyland" caliber.

Here is a reality check: If you like/love any of the bands/artists who are on MTV right now, you are a total Teenie Bopper who is the product of Coprorate propaganda.

I personaly try to find older music now... I am into Robert Johnson, Leadbelly, Muddy Watters, BB, old Clapton, etc.. at the moment. Even some older Young, Dylan.

I am not a rap fan, but i'll go head and say that rap is dead as well... It died when 2pac got killed. Today we have total idiotes like Jarule, who BLING BLING (whatever that means), and rap about How they are "Murder Inc" (trying to be old death Row a-like)... but then again, they are all a product of Corporations and Record execs... its all've been done before.

Dude, don't you think you're being just a bit closed minded. I can't deny that what you said about bands/people that lead the way isn't true. However, to say that if one likes the stuff shown on MTV makes them "Teenie Boopers" is a bit drastic IMHO. When I started getting into "good" music years back I was introduced to metal; old Metallica, Sabbath, etc. Since then I've expanded to classic rock in general; Santana, The Who, Zepplin, etc. I see no problem in liking newer acts. However, I would not say that they are on par or could even begin to compare with the acts I just mentioned. I don't see why one can't respect musicians. I will say that Incubus is one of my favorite new acts. I just find them to be quite talented and I really enjoy their music. I do have a very wide taste in music and I don't see how that makes me appreciate any of it any less then you. For example, the last few concerts I've been to include The Who, Tom Petty, Tool and Ozzfest. I thoroughly enjoyed each of those shows. The next few I'm going to include a punk show (Sex Pistols, Blink, Offspring, Bad Religion, Pennywise, Social D), Rush and Rolling Stones. If my tastes make me any less of a music fan, then so be it.

The Who, ya i forgot to include them in my list... Pete Townshed is great.

Well, i agree that i am a bit too harsh, but thats me... The incubis guitarist uses like 500 pedal effects on stage, he pisses me off hehe.

Nope. Mainstream rap is garbage now, that's all there is to it. Just because you don't see the underlying fabric of real artists who rely on talent and lyrics instead of the crap you see on TV doesn't mean that the genre is dead.

What you see on MTV is *not* rap, Nelly is not rap, Ja Rule is not rap, these are not representatives of the culture, so don't let them dictate your vision of the music.

fyi hoobastank has been around for years and years (under a diff name)

anyway, whoever said that people that are unsigned are doing it only for the music are kidding themselves. people that are unsigned are looking for labels and for hte most part would love to be on a major. you dont htink people wanna be in a band and not make money off of it do you? coming to the conclusion that every band on a major label changed their style just for money is as stupid as saying all asian people stink and all white people are rednecks.

anyway all my thoughts are spread apart becuase i have to leave soon.

you should like music for what it is, not becuase of their looks, marketing, or how much money they're making. on the flipside, you shouldnt dislike music because of looks, marketing, or how much money they're making.

Biggest mistake is associating a performer with their looks. Biggest mistake was the invention of music videos. Biggest mistake is the invention of MTV, just watch it today.

My advice....
Follow through with that urge....

Seriously, you like the band until you SAW them, so your reason for disliking them has NOTHING to do with the quality of their product, but entirely based on the looks of their lead singer....good job toolbox....

one of the main reason's i'm glad thier is so much non-mainstream music (like most of punk / ska) out there... becuase they havent been currupted by the money.
So, following this reasoning...

Don't buy mainstream music because you're primarily supporting the RIAA and not the artist
Support smaller unknown bands by buying indie records because the artist gets more money
More money corrupts artists...D'oh!!!

I guess NO music is worth actually paying for.

LOL

what do you mean?
You base your opinion of people on looks, and you base the musical talent of somebody on looks.
Other than that, nothing.

i didnt question their musical talent.. they're still my favorite new band. I just pictured some cool hardcore rocker dude when i heard their songs.. not some panzified incubus singer look alike..

all these singers are just trying so hard to project some retard image when they wear these dumb clothes and have dumb hairstyles...

i like it when people just be themselves and dont try to project a certain image.

its should be about the music, not the videos.. but think about it-- how many cd's would britney spears have sold, or N'sync, or shakira, or anybody like that have sold if it wasnt for MTV.
ZERO.

"I used to like Hoobastank" is the title of your thread, so make up your mind and come back when you have figured out what you really want to say.

Btw, I've seen the lead singer, I don't exactly think you are an expert on knowing when people are not being themselves, how do you know thats not how he really is?

Hmm... See, money is not really bad if you are still doing your thing, BUT when big execs come amd say "OK, you change your style to this, and look like that, and act like this guy..." to sell records, thats the problem. This is whats happening right now.

A lot of supergroups were filthy ritch with private 707 planes, huge masions, supercars and all that stuff (Zeppelin, GnR, Metallica, Bon Jovi, etc) but they sticked to their music. Then there were artists who just didnt care for the money, and never became confortable with it (Cobain, Hendrix)... they just wanted to play and not worry about anything.

To play Devils Advocate for a moment here, listen to Incubus, then listen to pink floyd.
My guess is you would suprised how much they have in common (five bucks says they are big into Pink Floyd, I'd bet my life on it).

And while I think it is completely nitwitted to sit there and say that anyone who likes whats on MTV is a teenie-bopper (um, yeahbecause last night alone I saw an Aerosmith video and an old Hendrix video, so, that alone kinda blows his comment out of the water) the problem I fidn is that artist nowadays think that you have to have an inspirational band, for example, Pink Floyd for Incubus. The problem is they let that soak through their own music until it becomes a washed out version of the same stuff you hear decades ago, a cheap copy guised as original artwork.

That's not to say all bands are like this, there are plenty of shining starts out there, Filter (a great band whos live show will only add to the experience, check out their song "Where do we go from here") Chilli Peppers (they are still going strong, give "By the Way" a listen, its still good music), for the supposedly dead rap category check out Mistikal, theres some pretty damned original sounding music for you, I dislike most rap but him, DMX (cant explain why on that one) and Ludacris are the only ones I can stand. Because they are original.

You know a lower-talent band with alot of originality will go farther in my book than a highly talented band who lacks true originality.

Here's a few of the groups I listen to currently, good bad or otherwise.

Ludacris
Mystikal
Chilli Peppers
Filter
Trust Company
Santana (alot of his supernatural album)
Everlast
Disturbed
Slipknot
Delerium

Just to name the ones I can remember, so nobody can say my taste isnt varied (btw thats not including ANY of the techno groups, thats a whole nother list).

Wow you are a dumb-a-s-s Rallispec, not only do you judge someone who is going to be a million times more successful than you in life, you are probably as handsome as a dog hit by a train. How you could change your opinion on a band by the singer's looks is beyond me. If I was an artist I wouldn?t' want someone like you as a fan.
