no, eating the butter seemed to help, oddly enough

i just ate some dirt pudding with no ill effects

A tight / swollen throat. Try to imagine what is the cause of this?
It could be you were just rough with it and need some time to heal.
Or it's caused by something very serious like the growth of a tumor applying pressure from somewhere.

Establish a sense of time and a level of seriousness that crosses the line. If either condition applies then ask a doctor for help in resolving the issue, and most importantly in figuring out the cause.
Oh, and while you wait to see if it improves... try to find ways you applied undue pressure on your head/neck/throat area. And stop doing it. Examine everything you do. Sleep position, pillow arrangement, everything.

Is it a food or medication allergy?
Environmental allergy?

come to think of it... i have been sleeping on the floor more without a pillow.

i get too tired to make it to bed and just crash on the floor for a few hours. it's not exactly comfortable.

maybe that is somehow causing a problem... i will stop doing it and see if it helps.

I think being too tired to get to bed and sleeping on the floor is enough of a problem in itself.
