Our supposed "safety officer" at work sent out an email to thte entire building about brown recluse spiders, and how bites by them have been increasing in California recently. It had some nasty looking pictures of a guy's hand attached, which you can find all over the internet if you look for brown recluse bites.
Anyway, I responded to the entire building with another email, with links to entymology departments of major universities, showin ghim that brown recluse spiders don't actually live in California, as well as a link to Snopes where they had the exact same pictures as in his email, and they weren't sure if they even were Brown Recluse bites.
The guy who sent the email in the first place got very upset, since I made him look like an idiot. My boss was a bit annoyed, since even thoguh I was right, it's unprofessional to make your coworkers look like idiots in front of thier peers. He basically told me not to send any more email to the entire building, especially in a flame-like manner.
Meanwhile, about 8 other co-workers responded privately to my email thanking me for the additional information, and telling me that they had questioned the original email in the first place.
Yeah, my boss was annoyed with me for a little while, but it was worth it. Hopefully our "safety officer" does some more research before his next important safety warning.
