I owned some guy at work today via email. I sorta got in trouble for it, but it was worth it.

Its not that you corrected the person, its probably the tone of your email that pissed people off. It could have been resolved if you just emailed the safety officer privately with your findings. If you do that though, everyone wont know how smart you are.

I expect false information from the govt. I also expect the lowest possible quality in all govt workers.

It could've easily been done without the condescending attitude (in front of all your coworkers, no less). You've got a lot to learn about playing nice with others.

If you're given wrong information, there's no need to get on the PA of your local town and broadcast that it's wrong to everyone in the community.

You could have emailed the sender and asked that he correct the information. People would think a lot more of you if you don't flex your intellectual muscles in front of the whole office.

IIRC you're still a college student, which means you are the lowest rung on the totem pole. Way to go - you're even lower now for being a smartass.

I agree. Dont lie to yourself and say it was worth it. You just let the whole company know that you are an azzhole. Good work, you deserve a raise.

I just let the whole place know that they don't have to worry about thier hands looking like this every time they go outside, or clean out thier garage.

You guys are probably right though, I should let everyone spread whatever fear-mongering bullsh!t information they want. Maybe next week the safety officer can send out an email saying that sleeping with a virgin cures AIDS, that's worked pretty well in Africa.

SPYDER!

I'm completely and utterly dissappointed that this thread made it to a second page without a mandatory, "SPYDER!" post...

For shame ATOT, we must be better prepared for these events. I herebye raise the, "SPYDER!" threat level to Brown (elevated)... We must be vigilant...

P.S. Thanks to Quasmo for showing me that someone still cares

Africans have it all wrong. It's sleeping with a MALE VIRGIN that cures aids.

Why didn't you just email the safety officer your findings and tell him to send an updated email? If you did feel the need to reply to all, you probabaly put it in a sarcastic, condecending tone, else you wouldnt have been chided by your boss.

what you did was not the brightest thing, no offense. you should have just emailed the guy instead of everybody. and if he doesn't do anything, then meh. it's not that big of a deal.

Because he wouldn't have sent out an update for fear of making himself look bad. He would have said "I'll look into it", and never done anything.

My boss being a bit annoyed for half an hour isn't that big of a deal either. Tomorrow nobody will care. I won't get fired or lose any meaningful brownie points or anything.

Well, at the end of the day You ended up looking bad. I think it was probably the tone of your email, rather then you actually correcting him in front of everyone that pissed everyone off.

Not like you can get fired from a federal student job anyway...you're still rude and need to learn how to communicate in a business setting if you plan on doing anything with your life.

Actually, I take that back. After working in the federal government for 5 years, I'd say you'll fit right in.

The thing is, I didn't piss everyone off. I pissed off two people, and had 8 people agree with me.
