Your joking right?
First off Vista isn't even out yet. Only Vista Beta or whatever you call it is out so when the box says "Vista Ready" it might be ready in January sometime or whenever Vista comes out.

Why did you choose Vista as your main OS? Poor driver support, etc..
Why not just use XP?

Yo, I say get over it. Just wait or use XP. I heard Vista slows down games anyways. And plus, especially if you were going to SLi them, it's an 8800GTX. If you're going to give them away, sell them to someone who does want one.

You're "acting" dumber than dirt here brudda. Vista has not officially been released yet. Who gives a crud if you have a stolen, bootlegged, or RC version of Vista??? Is that Nvidia's problem?

Hmm, odd, I have 20 licenses for Vista Business sitting here, and also have the install media from Microsoft for Vista Business and Vista Enterprise downloaded from the MVLS site on my system. Not only that, we've already installed it on two workstations for evaluation in our corporate environment.

Dunno, but that seems pretty much released to me.

(Keep in mind, the Corporate release, OEM release and Consumer releases happen at different times... you won't see Ultimate until January)

So? His problem is that the box says "Vista ready",and he can't use an operating system that's not even launched yet in the consumer market..
How's that Nvidia's fault?

I can understand people that make complaints about the unacceptable XP drivers (and certainly I'm one of them), since we have the card a month or more, but you can't blame Nvidia for Bill's "achievements"...

Well, I'm glad it "seems" that way to you, but that's just not how it is. And another thing that amazes me, is how many people actually WANT to start using Vista. Especially the pre-release stuff. Remember when XP first released? How much did that suck with minimal hardware drivers from manufacturers available and a VERY buggy operating system indeed. Are you all anxious for headaches? Very puzzling.

Well you can always use 2 operating systems in dual boot, I myself am eager to use Vista when they will be launched.. There are many things I wanna experiment on the new operating system, but certainly I will have XP installed as my primary system for some time.. Of course this doesn't negate the fact that OP's request is irrational..

How is that not how it is? Vista IS available now. Regardless, I'm done with that quibble. Your other point is valid though, but some people must deal with cutting edge. Take myself for example, since I basically handle corporate IT support, before it gets deployed, I need to know everything I can about it. Especially the headaches.

The G80 isn't like the rest of Nvidia's products. It needs a special driver, as DirectX 10 hardware is a bit different from the DirectX 9 or earlier.

If you go to nvidia.com download page you will learn that the Geforce 8800 series needs a special driver. In fact, Nvidia has three different variations pf driver: one for Windows XP or Media Center edition, the second one is for Windows Server 2003 X64 Edition and the last one supports Windows XP Professional 64 bit edition. MO< It seems that Nvidia silently moved from a Unified driver marchitecture to a completely disunified one.

All drivers are named 97.44 and you can get them now.

Unfortunately, the Geforce 8800 still doesn?t have a Vista driver - not even the basic one - and this has caused a few upset faces amongst folks running the Vista Business Edition.

No doubt the Vista driver will come in a different package to teh other three consigning the Unified driver marchitectural idea to the wastebasket of history.

Both the Forceware 10 driver, with a few new tricks inside, and the Vista driver have been delayed for a while and we don?t think we are going to see them anytime soon. Nvidia has a beta but it doesn?t want to share it, even with its closest partners. µ

I think this may be trolling. :D Oh well same happens when ati releases new stuff. Someone buys the card to tell us how bad the drivers are. Gets boring as we all know vid cards have driver bugs and new tech has more.

I must admit to surprise at the lack of vista support for vid cards in general. They seem to be selling vista at ncix (can buy xp upgrade packages). I would have thought ms could do a better job than this. Am hoping that vista isn't a big fat expensive lemon. On second thought, ms taking a dump has some appeal.

Look, if you want to experiment with a new OS, try out Fedora Core 6. It has nvidia drivers for 8800GTX that have great performance. Play EVE/WoW/Quake3-4/UT2k4/CS1.6-:S/NWN2 or pretty much any older game.

Or stick to the same old and try 64-bit WinXP.

Vista right now is not for every day use as a consumer desktop. Bug reporting, curious experimentation, development, maybe some other stuff, but NOT for gaming.

Vista Business is out.

I think it's a bit much though to expecting Nvidia to have consumer level and tested SLI drivers ready before the consumer OS has been released.

Email Nvidia support, they might be able to send you some beta drivers.

If you are new to being on the bleeding edge of tech ... this is what it's like. You pay a premium for being the early adopter on hardware ... and the drivers you need aren't always ready.

The enthusiast fun isn't just in having the biggest and most poerful hardware ... it's also fun to be among the first to actually get it working and see how things change and improve overtime.

Microsoft has started to market its new Vista operating system. It is being sold to business customers only right now; consumer availability will come at the end of January. Microsoft predicts that Vista will be the fastest-selling operating system to date. Windows Vista is two years late, and will miss the Christmas season. It, along with Office 2007, took five years to develop, along with $20 billion, and 10,000 workers.

For the love of god, for those who use Vista (beta) should know that any sort of support isnt going to come to us til end of January.

I dont see why people go off buy a buggy beta OS thinking it will work straight off the box. Stick with the true and tried (i.e windows XP) til the support for Vista is matured and the new OS stabilised to a point where its actually usable.

Actually, I'm starting to wonder if we have a troll on our hands?

lol :! Nelsieus ... you call me a troll then you are going to call so many people a troll... Also i didn't think my post would blow up as the next big major scandal. I was a bit childish but i was kidding about sending them back to shop when i got em for below distribution price. Also if you read my post ... its actually saying bad stuff about ATI R600 and good stuff.

blow some extreme scorching heat at it << Produce more heat and higher temp than G80
lower its hearing aid << be noisy as hell like R520
It will totally destroy it with its 1Billion + transistor << ATI generally always have more transistors than the competing architecture

Anyways you people took my post too seriously !!

You guyes are very protective of Nvidia???
Fact1: Vista is Out
Fact2: 8800GTX is Out
Fact3: ANY Driver for Vista - MISSING

And Nvidia sholud be ashamed of such ignorant position, selling Very expensive hardware without ANY drivers for Vista (i'll be gald to have at least Beta)

And it is normal for a person who can afford it to try new stuff, i do not see why You are "attacking" him;)
