i'm not saying that law is good or anything, but to say someone's opinion is 100% invalid because they aren't a parent is pretty narrow sighted. now her comparing parenting a child to owning cats ... that is just retarded lol.

but the whole concept of "cant have a valid opinion because you arent a parent" is like saying that we can't have an opinion on who is good/bad in professional sports because we have never played at the professional level, only observed. or we can't say what a good movie or game is because we've never made one, only observed/played them.

if i see a little kid running around in a store screaming his head off and being a total pest and the parent isn't doing anything, that parent is doing a bad job at parenting.

You, being a programmer, detect I'm clearly spouting off opinions that make no sense in regards to proper programming practices or the goal at hand, but I'm not exactly off topic because I've seen other lines of code in other programs (NOTE: Observer) yet never actually wrote one. This is how you sound. Just comes off as arrogant.

OP, I would have told my child that she is being tracked. This way there is an understanding from her side that she should be were she says she will be. If plans change, then she will call you. Now, she will hide where she is by leaving the car or phone at her friends place and driving around circumventing your protocols. I would be straight forward with her and let her know what YOU expect as a parent. Good communication is the key to trust.

A non-coder may not know what the hell he's looking at regarding source, but he can criticize the run binary. It can be as subtle as a shitty interface, or as bad as the undocumented feature of having your root drive formatted when when you press an obscure key combination.

Guess what, my 6yr old also has an opinion on my parenting. I give your opinion about as much weight as his. It is quite obvious that your whole perspective on parenting is from that of a child, which is understandable. Trying to convince you otherwise would be like trying to convince a teenage girl that life goes on after her boyfriend dumps her. You just cant possibly understand without perspective., and when you do eventually have children, you can look back at this conversation and laugh at yourself.
