I got mine tonight. Very nice phone, and I am coming from a 2G iPhone on T-Mobile. The call quality is top notch, and oh how I love the speaker! I currently copying about 12 gigs of music onto it.

Been playing with it all night, really digging this phone a lot.

Kaido: the screen is actually quite bright but by default it is set to an 'auto' mode where it auto adjusts based on the light you're in. You can turn it off and it gets way too bright. I tried both ways and ended up just using the auto.

The camera is meh, don't care at all personally but I can see that info being useful to someone.

Everything is really quick for me.. no lag in applications or email. I'm quite fond of the home screen personally though the Pre and iphone look a bit 'prettier,' I find the screen quality on the droid to be the best I've seen.

The lack of multitouch in a few apps pisses me off but I'm sure that will be out soon enough.

The keyboard is weird at first, like Kaido said the keys are not raised up in an obvious way so it's awkward at first but I'm flying on it now after a few hours on it. The d-pad is pretty meh overall but its saving grace is the ability to make the cursor move back and forth in a typed out word.

Overall it's definitely one of the nicest pieces of technology I've used recently. Very sturdy and well conceived. It has already become second nature to use for me. It's a touch rough around the edges in places but in time this thing will be even better.

I'd love to try one of these out but for now I just get whatever I can for free -- including my handmedown Moto Q.

I definitely don't need one of these, but man, it looks awesome.

What data plans are you guys getting?
I'll probably get the cheapest - 450 minutes with data. It's $80 but I can get it for $60/mo with my work discount.

I keep hearing people say that the data plan is $30. However, if you take the lowest voice plan ($40) and add the data plan, it's $80, not $70. Why do people say it's $30?

The salesman tried to put me on an $80 plan with data and 450 minutes. I politely told her that I wanted the $40 450 minute plan and to add the $30 data, which she did. That makes it $70.

I discussed options with the salesman at the VZW Store myself. On my old phone, the env2, I had a 450min Nationwide Select plan, no data. 450 minutes, free Verizon calls, unlimited texts, etc. This plan was 59.99 and I get a % discount through my employer. My original intent was to simply add the 30 dollar personal data plan and call it a day, however, this turned out not to be the best option. My employer discount only applies to the plan, so it turned out it was actually cheaper for me to actually get a 99.99 dollar plan that included all the unlimited texts and data because the employer discount would then come from my total.

Edit -

Oh right, the phone. Its cool. Its locked up on one call, but it seems to be an isolated incident due to low battery life at the time. The screen is excellent so far, very easy to read. The UI itself is, for me, very responsive, except in a few instances where there's a momentary delay.

I did experience a little delay with my Gmail syncing, the first email to it came it slow compared to Thunderbird on my desktop, but I would expect a little delay. Subsequent emails have come in pretty fast. Honestly though, its email. Does a 30 second delay really make that much difference? If its that critical, they'll send me a text, an IM or just plain call me. This is something that annoys me. "Did you get my email, I needed that thing fixed right away, it was urgent." Why didn't you just call me then, jackass? Its a phone, for crying out loud. :p

recieveing emails on it is crap. took 5 minutes for a gmail msg to get to it compared to instant on a blackberry

Blackberry does "push" service for email- that's why you pay for Blackberry email service.

You probably set yours up to do POP3- which is going to check for mail very so many minutes. Set it up to do IMAP.

data rate per month is the only reason I haven't gone to the iphone/blackberry territory. I have an HTC Titan (XV6800) with no data. I won't use it daily as I'm home everyday anyway, but it would be a nice convenience in general. So many people I know have iphones and update their FB that way. Oh I forgot to mention I really dislike phones without an actual keypad - too many steps to call a particular person without one-touch speed-dial. I would probably hate the iphone. I miss my Treo.

If you aren't getting gmails immediately there must be a temporary network issue or something, as it is a push service on Android. On my G1 I would get them faster than on the gmail website.

The navigation system on this thing is truly awesome. I'm going to always have it in the dash mount when in my car since I will be playing music from it and can answer calls well enough with the speaker phone.

My main annoyance right now is that the keyboard likes to slide open, very slightly, when it is in my pocket. Not a big deal though.

Did anyone get cases for theirs? I always used my iPhone naked, and planned on doing the same with my Droid.

no case but i did get one of those invisishield screen protectors. I kind of hate it right now but it hasn't settled yet. Thinking about just taking it off if this thing isnt going to scratch that easily.

I am debating about whether or not to get a belt clip with case. I have noticed the upper rear panel gets a little warm. Not sure if there is a legit overheating concern or not, but its something to keep an eye on.

I don't think XDA is going to do anything related to the Droid since it's not an HTC phone.

Im my situation, my work picks up a chunk of the bill, plus we resell Google Apps accounts, so it's in my interest to get something like this.

People that get phones just to say "HEY! I have this phone!"...yeah, I see what you're saying.

What kind of service do you provide when you are reselling google apps accounts?

It's part of our web hosting service plans. We're contracted with Google to provide support and setup for them. It's a pretty common service.

Where the heck are you getting this??? Verizon hopes to begin LTE trials by the first quarter of next year. I read the Boston & Seattle would be the first 2 cities, but they will be using laptop cards, not phones.
