looks to be an awesome phone! kind of pissed that there isnt any multi-touch on it, but otherwise, this is the phone i would get without hesitation, if the iphone wasnt available/wasnt a choice for me.

The phone itself does multitouch, its just disabled in the Verizon version. There will be a multitouch-enabled custom ROM shortly, I'm sure. I had a version of Android with multitouch installed on my G1 even.

I shake my head at folks who dump big bucks into the "latest and greatest" new phones...but are soon disillusioned when within a few months, something better comes out...(sounds like everything else "techy" doesn't it? :p )

I like some of what I've seen and read about the Droid, and IF I had a need/want for such a device, I think I'd choose the Droid over the iPhone...but, for the first time since the "bag phone" days of the early 90's, we're without cell phones. We're considering getting a pre-paid phone and plan for when we're on the road...but it's not a high priority for us. If I need to make a non-emergency phone call that won't wait until I get home, there are still phone booths...

Im my situation, my work picks up a chunk of the bill, plus we resell Google Apps accounts, so it's in my interest to get something like this.

People that get phones just to say "HEY! I have this phone!"...yeah, I see what you're saying.

It doesn't matter how cool the phone is. Verizon will turn it into a one-legged gazelle.

Call and complain, my coworker got a Storm and they're giving him the '1 year rate' for the droid which means the phone costs 369 (269 after rebate). Worth the extra 69 bucks.

I was thinking about that. I am pretty unhappy with my blackberry curve. It freezes up and makes me pull the battery more than it should. been having a problem with the ear piece too. when I pick up a call it gets crazy loud for a split second. I might give it a shot

Think I'd have a better chance calling them or going to one of the verizon stores that has a decent sized service department?

Calling for sure, the store won't do shit for you.

PS the curve is junk, I have one for work and I fucking hate it.

The screen is glass correct? Would you recommend getting those plastic screen covers for it or will it not scratch that much? My friend's Pre is awful because its like all plastic and any scratch on the screen is highly HIGHLY visible.

I had an iphone for 3 months and hated it because at the time they didnt have a horizontal screen keyboard and the vertical one is shit for me.

Not sure, but he did put a screen protector on it. He also got a hard shell case for it (soft leather on the outside). I did the same for my iPhone - it's glass, but a screen protector is easier to wipe smudges off of, plus when I sell it, it's a PERFECT screen. He got the 3-pack of screen protectors from Verizon for the Droid.

Yeah, onscreen keyboards aren't for everyone. I personally love them, but I know a lot of people who require physical keys to function and I totally understand that.

The screen is indeed glass according to a number of reviews I've read.

The good thing is that those minuses will all be fixed via custom roms from the XDA forums.

Yeah - I can see it being a REALLY nice phone if the interface is cleaned up. It's like 95% there, but after using an iPhone, it's just hard to compare "good" to "great". I also played with the Eris - I feel like if they put a 1ghz CPU in there, it would really fly.

Update the OS. That speaker blast problem was on one of the previous OS's for the Curve and has been fixed. I'm running 4.5.0.131 without any issues.

it's not disabled, just not implented into the core apps, notably the browser. but there are and will be more apps that use it.
