I just got scammed by Gamestop

I was doing lots of x-mas shopping with the wife, since we have a gamestop card to help $ on quick re-sells and we almost always purchase used games, we thought it would be a no-brainer to get some used games for the family.

Got 3 games, then spent rest of day shopping.

Got home today and was wrapping gifts and took the price tags off all the games. By chance I opened up the DS game box because I wanted to make sure the manual, etc. was still in it because it was "new", and alas, there was no game inside.

Pretty pissed off and will head in immediately in the morning. I know it's not going to go well because what's to keep someone else from pretending that the game wasn't in there at all? I'm going to demand an inventory check, but I know from working retail before inventory almost never matches up correctly.

Either way I'm going to find a way to get that damn game I paid for....

I never liked their system but I put up with it because I get a good price and essentially, the actual CD/card itself is unused. A whole lot of damn good it does me when they don't put the f;ing cd/card in it.

Or watch them put the games in the cases.

OP, I'm sure they have surveillance cameras watching the employees. Ask the manager to watch the tape. Good luck getting him to do it during the holiday season though.

i always thought their system sucked. kind of lame buying something "new" that they happily took apart.

Yea it's gonna be a pain to deal with, question to ask yourself is how much is your time worth vs how much the ds cart is worth. Because they won't reimburse you for your efforts. :(

yep, I understand that it won't be easy but a clear inventory check should resolve the issue. It was a $19.99 new game, so all they need to do is check to see display units vs. units in locked case and they should be +1. Should only take 1 min and I am a pretty frequent customer so hopefully I don't get dicked =(

Thankfully it wasn't a freaking 59.99 game so at most I lost my $19.99 and they lost my business forever

This makes me think it's best to open as I'm in the store right after buying from now on.

On many occasions I've walked out of the Gamestop empty handed because they tried to sell me an opened game as new.

What were you doing while the GS dude/girl was putting the game in the game case? Chances are the manager will tell you to suck it.

I watched them put the first two in but I was getting distracted because I kept on talking w/ wife about where we were going next, etc. etc.

I still don't think I should have watched him, the expectation is that when I purchase something it is in the box

It's like bringing home a tv with no tv in the box

I used to work at GS and people forgot to put games in all the time. Nobody tried to scam you. It's unfortunate but shit happens when you have to deal with a million customers at once and the POS system is acting up.

Just go back, with your receipt, and explain what happened. They will get your game to you.

Yeah, I'm not going to be a dick to them about it I know why it happens and I know why it may not be easy for them to just hand me the game... Just sucks overall =)

I've been in retail before so I know Sh*t happens, just hate it when I it happens on me

My brother and I have each had that happen before. However, we both noticed it right when we got home, and so we called them and let them know. Both times they said "yeah it's our fault we have the game right here, come in when you can" and so that was pretty chill.

Now I always check it when they hand me the discs.

I have agree to a certain degree. While I love having the actual game in hand, there are also downsides. You risk scratching the disc (I don't scratch my discs, but I know plenty of people who do), you can lose the disc (just like people who can lose the case and manual), and they take up space. There are certain games and movies I must have on media because of the box art and extras that only come with the physical media, but for everything else, I wouldn't mind having them on the HD.

The benefit of downloading games is after you buy the rights to the game, you can download it as many times as you want, so you don't have to worry about losing the media. For most games, you also don't have to insert the media into the optical drive for verification. There's less noise loading straight from the HD, faster access, and prolongs your hardware's life. The only downside besides lack of extras is the cost. If the download version is $10 cheap, I'm definitely getting that. But more often than not, you always see discount deals on the physical media, while the download version price stay constant.

Why doesn't Gamestop just give you the original unopened case? (I've never purchased a game at gamestop, so I have no idea how their system works)

Gamestop has the worst business model ever. I never understood why you have a reserve a game to get it on release day even when it's not even a high demand game (e.g. NBA 2K9). I'm never shopping there again, not when I can get the same game at Walmart when it comes out without any pre order bullshit.

Those videos need to be stickied onto every forum section here, and every other forum on the web. Gamestop is the suck!

Happened to me 2 weeks ago actually, but I noticed it as soon as I got home so I called up and luckily the guy was like, "Oh yea I guess I never put one in" so I went back. I think I just got lucky b/c the guy actually remembered he didn't do it.

If you are honest (which you are) polite and seem like not the scammer type guy, they should be OK. Say it's for your daughter, etc
