My fiance and I planned to get married this year in a very low key fashion, but we put off the plans until recently. However all the judges in the area left early for the holidays, or weren't doing marriages any more this year, and noone returned our calls.

Not expecting much, I posted on craiglist last night, and now we're married, courtesy of a nice local pastor who wanted to help. :)

That's pretty cool, congrats...Pics of the wedding? or perhaps the honeymoon for the right price? I'm a reasonable man, I'm sure we could come to some type of arrangement...

Damn, craigslist has become a site for just about anything and everything.

After that one guy's thread about making girls squeal (Agent something), I thought I had seen it all.

Wow...congrats, that sure is a unique way to get married. Pics? (I know you're trying to keep it low key, though :p)

Thanks everyone.

Sorry no pics...we've got the authorities looking for us in atleast 3 states, 2 of which are in the continental 48. :(

j/k :p

Not much of a wedding...the pastor, us, and two witnesses in his small chapel. The 'ceremony' was however more special than we expected it to be, courtesy of the pastor's genuine sincerity in it all.

Congratulations!

Just in time! Now you have to filed your taxes for 2007 as "married". See the stickied thread in OT to find out how much more you're going to have to pay :p

No, it's generally more. That's why they call it the marriage penalty.

Congrats!

But was I the only one under the impression that the OP found the wife on craigslist...?

Actually it was the pastor's ex son-in-law who referred me to him. :D I wasn't going to go there with him tho, since he did me such a favor.

Wait a second... You just got married and one of the first things you did was post on ATOT?!! Shouldn't you be signing Mrs. Sole up for an account? :p

Theoretically that would depend on whether or not the new spouse worked much, if at all.

I believe that posting after a marriage with a story like that without pics or registering the wife is/should be a banable offense... ;)

congrats!

The marriage penalty. You've undoubtedly heard about the marriage-tax penalty, the quirk in the tax law that makes a married couple pay more income tax than they would have to if they remained single. Here's a little secret: Most married couples get a marriage bonus: paying less income tax than they would if each partner were single.

Marriage still has plenty of penalties even if the tax deal has been remedied. :p
