Guess you're getting $600 worth of high performance PC then since that seems to be the amount he's budgeted to you. I have a TNT2 that I'll be willing to sell you for the right price so you'll actually be able to include a 3d accelerator in your rig and still have enough to buy a case and all those other minor little parts, that way you can get straight to some ultra-high speed fragging. Who needs framerates when you have a "performance PC" after all? 😉

If it's for your parents they don't need a performance PC, as performance is not that big a deal to them if they're still on a celery 600 and he considers $600 to be what he'd be willing to spend. Get the Dell 4700 with 17" LCD for $499 deal and it will both be infinitely better than what they have now and leave you $1500 in your pocket. If you still want to spend it on your parents then get them something else which they value more, take 'em on a week's trip to Ireland for a second honeymoon or something.

Are you kidding? A nice, top of the line, but not bleeding edge PC runs about $2k. Some of us like antialiasing, fast load times, etc...
