Been there and done that 4 times man. I even got laid off one time on Christmas eve and another time after my 3 month probation before getting into the union. They laid off the entire division on my day my 3 months was up. Being laid off sucks. Everthing is going great, making good money and then whamo it all goes to hell. And sucks ffor me because all of the jobs I was laid off from I was just starting to see the light and getting my affairs back in order then right back into the hole again.
Only advise I can really give you is to go get on unemployment right away and get that ball running while you look for another job and dont wait for the finances to be used up. I learned the hard way and its seems kinda demeaning (sp) doing it and having to go into the office and feel lower then dirt but its a big help having some sort of cash comming in and hell you did put some of that money in there incase something should happen so make use of it. It was a big help the time I did it and once I was laid off the other times right after leaving my ex-employer my trip on the way home was to the unemployment office.
Granted you may be able to find a job right away but if your having trouble doing so atleast something is coming in no matter how little it may be. If you have a family may also want to go to the welfair office so that your family can get food stamps and insurance incase someone gets hurt as well or cannot find a job right away. Again you paid into it so may as well use it, its what it is there for.
EDIT just read the above reply and I am sorry that what I wrote cant help you BUT it would hurt to call and ask provided your here legaly on a visa. The worst they can tell you is no right?
