before everyone calls BS, it's not your everyday accord coupe, it's got the red top H22A swap (Euro Prelude moter, 220hp stock) and i have a straight through exhaust, no cats, no mufflers, dumped behind the rear axle, and a custum ram air intake i made myself....

Is that the one with the porch screen air filter?

yeah, it's got two layers of it, it does fine as a filter...
Is that the only filter you have? If so, no..it does NOT do fine as a filter. It's letting all sorts of dirt through.

why? they only ake 230hp/330ft/lbs of torque stock.

http://www.conceptcarz.com/veh...rolet_Corvette_C4.aspx

Only up until the 1992 model year. More recent versions of the C4had up to 330 hp.

i dont know what year model it was.... just that it was a C4... it might have been the 330hp version.... my car should be making about 250hp to the crank, and i dont know which car is lighter.... im thinking if it was the 230hp version i would spanked it...unless they are lighter than my car...

They'd spank you since in addition to having at least as much HP as you, they have a ton more torque. While your peak HP will be almost as high, their powerband will be much more even and will put out more HP on average. Remember, your engine isn't at its peak HP all the time; most of the time it's struggling to reach the higher RPMs.

i shift at 7500-8000rpm, so im always in VTEC when im getting on it....

You don't have 250hp. With no backpressure on the exhaust and a homemade intake, you might still make 220hp, but even that's doubtful.

Backpressure is a good thing, it produces torque. Your stock intake, it produces the resonance and turbulance required for a good fuel mix.

Your home depot intake? No physics or engineering went into the design at all. There's a lot of fluid dynamics involved in designing an efficient intake, and note efficient doesn't always mean completely free flowing.

Furthermore, with a straight pipe behind the rear axle, I hope you at least made the pipe small enough in diameter to make up for your lack in back pressure. I don't understand how all these people go into modifying a car without first getting a basic understanding of how they work first. This is hardly acceptable for a 16 year old kid in high school with his first hand me down from mommy civic. Coming from a grown man that likes to rice his ride and make it even slower is just... I leave that to you. Just know, the correct amounts of backpressure creates the scavenging effect from exhaust pulses and makes torque.

You might be making 215horsepower and 158 torque from your original 220/163 IF you're lucky.

I have no idea where you got 250 from, with a NA engine, you'll never make +30hp with even the best designed exhaust and intake. Maybe +5. +30 would require new cams, new headers, overhauled cat back, a high flow cat, a good intake, and probably head work and a retune.

before the intake/exhaust it topped out at ~140, now it will peg the speedo, and be at 6500rpm (redlines at 8000rpm) so i have no idea of how fast it's going after that.

also the straight through pipe is 2.5in

While I agree with your sentiment, the idea that an intake and exhaust may only give 5HP and +30 would require new cams and things along those lines is ludricrous.

Granted, it is entirely dependent on the specific engine we're talking about here. If a performance intake AND exhaust only give you 5HP, the engine was already breathing fine in the first place and your limits are elsewhere.

His intake is surely a joke, though. If it flows better, it might give him some power at the top end, but thats probably about it.

exactly. the ram air intake didnt really make a diff at low speeds really, but at high speeds 80mph and above it made a very noticeable difference.

Uness you've got forced induction or in special circumstances that are the exception to the rule, yeas an intake and exhaust will only net 5hp.

Short Ram Intake & Pulleys add 1.4hp on a H22R

Red Top JDM Prelude with performance chip, fpr, intake, exhaust and header

Now look at his claim of 250hp. That's 30, or almost 15% more than stock.

Accounting for drivetrain losses, 250*.85(I'm being generous, most FWD drivetrain losses should be less than that), he should make around 212.5WHP. Now try to pick out any Prelude with a H22a in that thread making that much power.

Making 15%more power on an NA motor with no internal modifications is pretty much impossible, and most modern cars don't have much to gain from an aftermarket intake and cat-back exhaust. (Except for very high power/high strung motors or force inducted motors)

good read but you're wasting your time bud. it's automatic bullsh!t if someone claims going 140mph+ in an accord with a stock engine on a public road.

Yeah, I agree. You're right. Especially with modern engines.

My sentiment would probably only apply to certain older engines, or engines that were restricted on purpose.

Do you even KNOW there is a car sub-forum on this site?

Christ...can someone get a vacation for posting in the wrong forum constantly? Of course if he posted in the correct forum then he couldn't attention whore in OT as much.

You're an idiot. 140 on a public road? You should both be shot. I have no doubt that one day you will kill someone doing something stupid like this... with any luck it will just be yourself.

140 in an accord .... speeds are relative. I've hit 115 in my car in middle of PA dead steady (v8 CLK), my friend hit 120 on the same spot in SL55
