Google acquires Boston Dynamics, the robot builder behind Big Dog and Cheetah:

http://www.engadget.com/2013/12/14/google-bought-boston-dynamics-its-over-for-humans/

We're doomed :(

Well... shit. That was a good run, humans. Better start planning now.

Seriously, that is a weird, very weird combination for google, but yet... exactly what should be expected.
I wonder how Boston and how it's relationship with the DoD and DARPA will continue. They made it sound like they will honor existing contracts, but I am actually going to be peeved if they don't continue beyond existing contracts.
The work Boston is doing, very much matches up with the ideas of future warfare and robotic assistance on the battlefield.
You've got mules for gear, you've got search and rescue, you've got the potential for the hunt... what else is Cheetah's purpose? it's gotta be to chase/hunt - what else is a robot faster than humans going to do? It's a waste to have it only keep pace with humans as they go about their mission like the mules and other robotic assistants/tools.
Not entirely sure what Google sees long-term with this, there has to be a strategy besides military contracts and having their company be apart of further R&D in the robotics department.
Perhaps the idea is that, with robotic assistants, Google has a huge opportunity to discover more pertinent details about individuals as we make requests of our assistants. As these robots accept our requests and go about their activities, that also means we'll potentially have more time to look at digital content - which is more time to display potential advertisements. They can also push to the assistants - like, "you've had me wash dishes for you. Might you be interested in this brand of dish soap? It just so happens you are also running low. May I remind you, I can make this or another purchase and have a Google delivery drone deliver it today or tomorrow."

Still waiting for it to become sentient and take over the world.

My Router and WIFI SSID are named Skynet.

We have found a flaw and we might be able to settle the score with Skynet once and for all. The weapon? An EMP. We discovered that the cybernetic organism based terminators are not grounded to earth so they are vulnerable to an EMP. It's the terminators without living tissue over metal exoskeleton that are grounded and most likely won't be affected by the EMP. Our General Dynamics RBS-80 Phased Plasma Pulse Gun's will have to be shielded along with our Westinghouse M-27 Phased Plasma Battle Rifle's.

The fight continues... This is John Connor.

Starfish Prime
Worlds first EMP

Starfish Prime caused an electromagnetic pulse (EMP) which was far larger than expected, so much larger that it drove much of the instrumentation off scale, causing great difficulty in getting accurate measurements. The Starfish Prime electromagnetic pulse also made those effects known to the public by causing electrical damage in Hawaii, about 1,445 kilometres (898 mi) away from the detonation point, knocking out about 300 streetlights, setting off numerous burglar alarms and damaging a telephone company microwave link. The EMP damage to the microwave link shut down telephone calls from Kauai to the other Hawaiian islands.

Best of luck John!

There is no telephone microwave transmitters in the future or any of that crap after the bombs went off. LOL! So an EMP will bring us closer to victory against Skynet.

If you have ever watched Terminator 3 you would have learned that Skynet was a program. A program in cyberspace that couldn't be shut down.

No, it don't. A T-888 machine against an alien flesh and blood body wouldn't stand a chance against a robot. Especially a HK-bomber or a HK-tank.

terminator was defeated by a waitress. terminators have constantly and repeatedly been killed by humans, even with simple shots to the dome.

The predator is a skilled hunter and would just take that stupid thing out with it's shoulder laser before the slowass robot even knew it was being tracked.

Or, it could just lure it into an industrial press...because terminator is a dumbfuck machine.

Hell, terminator can't even kill the same douchebag kid, after how many attempts? :D

Besides, this was all solved in the Terminator vs Predator thread. Just beating the dead horse now.

LOL do you really think you're "folding" DNA with BOINC?
Do you mine for digital currency? All that computing power is actually being used to counter NSA "intelligence". Somehow it got messed up by some Chinese haxors and now the zombies are attacking healthcare.org. Some digital currency miners are run by the North (Koreans) seeking missile launch codes so they can make the minutemen rockets do u-turns on the People. They got scaringly close last month so they told the liberal media the combinations were simple...

Forget the internet...Conspiracy is serious bidness!
