I have an absolute weakspot for early-90's performance cars.

Before I bought my daily driver mazda3, I actually wanted to get a early-90's model, unmodded, clean, performance car.

If I see any of the cars listed above in very clean, almost stock (or very tasteful and subtle modifications/wheels), I just stare and long for it.

Recently, I saw an absolute CLEAN red BMW E30 at a carwash. The owner was this chick and she said she gets offers every month. She only had 50k on the clock too! Manual! in California's traffic! Too bad I noticed the ring :(. I generally do not like BMW's, but I can make an exception to the E30. My mom drove one when I was growing up, so I'm partial to it.

RX-7 (~92ish) has always fascinated me growing up. It had an unconventional engine, and it looked like absolute sex, and it still does. It's what made me into a Mazda fanboi, and now I own a Mazda 3 :)(, well, very nice car, but, I needed a 4door daily driver that I can take out to my outdoor activities, as well as have some fun). Hehe, the RX-7 was the first car i "bought" in Gran Turismo 5 prologue.

I have similar sentiments with the MR-2. Growing up as a little kid, a family friend owned the very boxy mr2. He'd take me in a spin in them. I love the car since he'd take me around corners and I'd get car sick. As a naive kid, I thought it was absolutely fascinating to have the engine behind you hahaha. The 2nd gen of this car, to me, looks like sex as well. Man, someone even offered me one (a very extremely clean, stock white mr2), but he was asking for $5k. heh, I think that's a bit too steep.

3rd gen Mustang 5.0. I saw this one old TV show, and there was a cop who was driving a modified one w/ the police decals and lights. I thought it was the most badass thing ever.

Haha, ever since then, I just liked the car. My favorite type is a '92 red w/ a white top.

I still believe that these generation of cars are among the most timeless cars of the last 20 years. I'd love to own any of them. Well, my love for these cars stem from personal experience as well. Another thing:
The RX-7, E30 had an awesome interior. I love how everything faces you in the driver's seat. Why can't they make interiors where the center console faces you anymore? That was so badass, and even practical.

When I see these cars heavily modified, a little part of me dies :(.

You can already tell what my dream garage is like. First, I need to get a house w/ a huge garage though haha.

Maybe it's just me, but I always think of the Ferrari Modena after looking at a picture of a clean MR2 like that. Text

No fucking shit. The early 90s had the coolest cars. No excessive electronic gizmos that'll annoy you to no end...

MR-2s, BMW e30s, Supras... It never ends! :D

If I had the money to maintain one, I'd get a TT Dodge Stealth. I always thought those were the hottest sporty car of that era. You can't go wrong with an RX7 though.

speaking of the 90's...I still love the looks of a well taken care of mid 90's Olds Cutlass 2dr.

Saw a perfect RX-7 in red in Windsor two days ago. It stood out in the parking lot among the boring crap that people buy.

RX-7 is one the nicest cars Mazda made. I had
a 1980 (stolen) / 1981 (I crashed it) / 1985 (13B) (stolen)
Just keep an eye on the Oil Level and do not let the motor
ever Overheat. You will warp the Rotor Housings in short order.
As to maintenance costs, they did not seem too high to me.

They had way too much electronic gizmos, whether they had a maf or a TBI that leave me awake at night with terriable nightmares.

i've always wondered about the maintence cost aside from that apexi seal. aside from that and the poor gas milage i think its a great car. Me of course would go for a T2 FC rather then a FD.

Actually, the Apex Seals were very troublesome on the
early Rotary Engines (1972-1979 years) .. Then they
finally got the material correct and the engine on average
will use about 1 Qt of oil every 2-3K miles. You still must
keep a careful watch on the oil level. I had a Mazda Cosmo
1976 year with a 13B rotary in it, that ran out of oil and
seized up on me. That's what happens if a seal fails or the
oil runs out. As to cost of replacing an apex seal, it means
an entire engine removal and rebuild. Cheaper to put in a
reman engine from say Rotary Engineering or Mazdatrix
or AtkinsRotary.com

a friend of mine has a convertible 5.0 from the mid-late 80s. it's in very good condition. that doesn't mean it's a nice car by today's standards, but it's an excellent weekend car for just cruising up and down the seawall in galveston. and it's nicer than his '98 zx-2.
