One Nation, under God. Not whites under God. Not blacks under God. Just a nation of free men and women.

Um, did I say something wrong?

Ignore the Idiots Amused. Good post!

No, You said nothing wrong. I did that because when i was in school, only the African-Americans were allowed to have the day off. MLKjr. was very important, but so was Washington, Jeffersona nd Lincoln, and we never got to "celebrate" Presidents Day by having it off. When I did not come to school that day, I was suspended because i said I was celebrating my heritage. That is why I am a bit upset.

I agree that MLKjr was an important person in history, but I do not think it warrants a full day off from school, banks closed, government shut down, etc unless all other 'holidays' the US Government creates are treated the same. (Like presidents day, Columbus day, Veterans day, etc..) I think Veterans Day is more important then MLKjr Day mainly because if it wasn't for the Veterans we may not have the freedoms we have today as a whole nation to be able to celebrate , not just one race out of the many that make up the US population (Like how MLKjr day represents a turning point in negros place in society).....

I know that the Government takes work off for every holiday, but that's about it. I do not know anyone who does takes the day off for MLKjr day (Or any of those other 'little' holidays). I mean even the friends I work with who are black do not even take the day off.... I am in the construction field and in the construction field you are lucky if you get paid for Thanksgiving and Christmas day off(Actually I wasn't even that lucky this year), let alone all the other holidays the US Government thinks we as Americans should celebrate....

Either one or all!!!!!!!!!
