Anywho, today is his day, I thought I'd post it.

Um, did I say something wrong?

Ignore the Idiots Amused. Good post!

No, You said nothing wrong. I did that because when i was in school, only the African-Americans were allowed to have the day off. MLKjr. was very important, but so was Washington, Jeffersona nd Lincoln, and we never got to "celebrate" Presidents Day by having it off. When I did not come to school that day, I was suspended because i said I was celebrating my heritage. That is why I am a bit upset.

I recommend that you let go of this baggage.

Then build a bridge and blah, blah, blah... don't piss on Amused's post just because you cannot have everything the way you want it to be...

I've heard of this speech often. This is the first time I am reading it in it's entirety.

Let us not seek to satisfy our thirst for freedom by drinking from the cup of bitterness and hatred.

Stirring!

We all want a color-blind society. Yet we want to preserve cultural heritage. You can't have both my friends, and therein lies the problem.

Unfortunately that appears to be true

Ah, the joys of Revisionist History. I wonder what else has been changed over the years to keep from "offending" anyone.

Well, you start by not having the government keep track of who is what color along with schools. Employers, financial institutions, and the like will also do business purely on the basis of merit. Eventually, the culture of everyone identifying with each other based on race will hopefully disappear because the major institutions will no longer care. Thus, no more "He/she got so-and-so advantage over me because they are black/white/asian/hispanic/irish/indian/middle-eastern/and on and on.

No, he's just a repost nazi. :p

One of the worst things a person can do in the fight against racism is carelessly and mindlessly accusing people of being racist.

I highly doubt Asum is racist... at least, he has never given me any clue that he is.

Okay, I see. So if the government stops census tracking, "Employers, financial institutions, and the like will also do business purely on the basis of merit." Please tell me what drug you are on. Oh but wait, "Eventually, the culture of everyone identifying with each other based on race will hopefully disappear because the major institutions will no longer care." It must be more than one drug you are on, right?
