Um, did I say something wrong?
Ignore the Idiots Amused. Good post!
No, You said nothing wrong. I did that because when i was in school, only the African-Americans were allowed to have the day off. MLKjr. was very important, but so was Washington, Jeffersona nd Lincoln, and we never got to "celebrate" Presidents Day by having it off. When I did not come to school that day, I was suspended because i said I was celebrating my heritage. That is why I am a bit upset.

Good post Amused. Hopefully, we will one day truly see a color-blind society in all respects (society, economic, and government).
My wishes exactly.![]()

I heard that alot of websites edited his speech changin the word negro to african american just to me politically correct. I never bothered to look and see if it was true though.

We all want a color-blind society. Yet we want to preserve cultural heritage. You can't have both my friends, and therein lies the problem.

I've heard of this speech often. This is the first time I am reading it in it's entirety.
Let us not seek to satisfy our thirst for freedom by drinking from the cup of bitterness and hatred.
Stirring!

Well, you start by not having the government keep track of who is what color along with schools. Employers, financial institutions, and the like will also do business purely on the basis of merit. Eventually, the culture of everyone identifying with each other based on race will hopefully disappear because the major institutions will no longer care.
