There is a website (see link below) that my mom always looks at when I ask to see any movie that is rated higher than PG. It describes movies in three categories: sex/nudity, violence/gore, and profanity. It makes movies sound 1000 times worse than they actually are. I wanted to see The Fast and the Furious, but my mom won't let me because of what the website says. Argh, I hate being under 18.

Look at some of the things on the website. My friend and I started laughing hysterically when we saw that they were talking about violence in a "Barney" (that kids' show) movie.

No, that won't work because I'm the only one in my house who knows something about computers, so they'd know I did it.

Wow, parents that care about their kids and what they see.

That's so very rare today, thanks for sharing. It made my heart glad.

<< Editor's Note - January 2002

We hate disruptive ads as much as you do. So we created two versions of kids-in-mind.

One, the current site, will continue to be supported by advertising; new reviews will continue to be published every Friday and access to our database will remain unencumbered.

The other, kids-in-mind.com/PLUS, our premium site, is password-protected, accessible only to members who pay a yearly subscription, and boasts several advantages: first, it carries no ads of any kind; plus, reviews are published days or even weeks before they will be available on the regular, ad-supported kids-in-mind.com; readers can search from every page; special indexes list films by both our ratings and the MPAA ratings; you can print any page with a single click; navigation is much faster. Also, if all goes well and enough readers become members, we will finally have the resources to expand our reviews to cover music CDs and video games. And we would love to become as comprehensive as possible by covering as many movies as possible -- we'd love to add older movies and more foreign movies. It is all a matter of resources.

We think that the enhanced experience of kids-in-mind.com/PLUS is worth paying a few cents to access -- $34.99 a year, a mere 3 bucks a month, less than a dime a day. You can easily check out our new site by following the directions at our members' page. We offer an unconditional money back guarantee and you have 14 days to cancel your subscription and owe nothing. You have nothing to lose and you get instant access.

The really sad thing here is that F&F rates a "4-5-6" for sex, violence, and profanity. That's actually quite low compared to some movies out there (there's like no nudity or violence in this movie...), so either you're like, 8, or your mom's a right-wing Christian fanatic (ok, so I'm generalizing a bit here..)

They claim that F&F's "message" is that winning is everything. I'd say they got it wrong, how about you?

There's really not much you can do, short of say, running your own dns server, and pointing your mom's pc at it (assign that URL to some IP that doesn't exist).

I'm going to end up watching this. I guess it could be okay.

Seriously, should I send a link to this thread to my mom;)?

My favourite part of the site is the "Do you hate pop ups? We agree, read on," and the first bloody thing I got was a pop up ad on their site.
Hypocrasy and idiocy make a very dangerous mix indeed.

Oh, brother. The movie is freakin' PG-13, for pete's sakes! If the MPAA says that it's OK for a 15 year-old to watch it, that should be good enough for your mom.

Anyway, I feel ya, dude. I have a friend who had freaky, religious-type parents like your own, who wouldn't let him watch ANYTHING "immoral" or "unholy". That poor kid missed A LOT of cool movies and good music during his childhood.
