That was my first thought as well. I live in "illegal immigrant central" where shit like this is fairly common...but too often, the driver, usually an illegal immigrant, escapes back to Mexico and evades prosecution.

I've seen a couple of accidents like the one in the OP. I always wished I was properly equipped..

You never have a dammed score card when you need one.

"I give the driver a 6 for distance, but I give the victim an 8 for form and acrobatics...but you stuck the landing, otherwise I'd give you a 9.5." :p

Hope your friend mends ok and there's no permanent disability from the actions of an asshole, irresponsible driver...and I hope the driver gets some serious jail time...but I doubt that will happen.

Are you srsly?

He was 33, shitfaced drunk, had no insurance, and still lived with his mom. He got his licensed suspended for three years and 500 hours of community service. Should have done jail time, the bastard.
That and he should have been banned from ever getting behind the wheel of a car/truck/etc. again. Violation an automatic minimum 10 year stretch and a fine of $200,000 if he has the money.

Sigh, I was just about to post something about this. A family friend on Friday night, father of two, got blindsided by a drunk driver. He's now in a coma, multiple spinal injuries, and feared paralyzed from the neck down. His outlook is not good. The docs gave the family a decision to either pull the plug or not...they're still deciding. I'm sooo mad right now. Fuck drunk drivers. WTF.

Look up Krisine Bufkin...Lubbock, Texas...

Her car got rolled (probably drunk, I know she went out that night before I got off work) and I know she was walking along the road...she may have been above legal alcohol limit but she could handle her shit...anyways, woman hit Kristine and claimed she thought it was a "deer" or something...even though according to police her leg was visibly noticeable as it was near the truck antenna. Also, the truck got fucked up bad...like busted radiator...everything. It would also appear that the woman that hit my fiance also knew her as well...Id never met her, but according to police reports and what not they had been known to one another...

Anyways, after dragging her for roughly 10 miles she pulled over and called two male friends of hers to pry her body out of the truck and dumped her body under and overpass on the other side of town. I just read now as I looked her up again that she is getting 10 years now after a 2nd trial was had. She'll have a parole hearing in 2 1/2 years...after she plead guilty to murder...wtf is that shit?

Kristine was 25 with one son, Blaze.

That bitch doesn't deserve to breathe the same air as the rest of us.

Next time I'm in Lubbock, I'll make the trip out to Buffalo Springs with some flowers.

sorry to hear, OP.
A drunk driver killed a friend's mom when he was only 8. He didn't have a father around so grandma took him in.

Glad to hear your friend should make a full recovery. It's about time for states to do something to stop all these drivers from being on the road without licenses, insurance, etc.
First of all - the plates don't stay attached to the car - you sell the car, the plates get turned in by the original owner to the DMV. No new plates without proof of insurance. And, insurance companies can NOT cancel insurance unless you've already surrendered your plates. Plus, insurance companies legally required to inform the DMV if your insurance lapses. It works in NY.

apparently he told cops that he didnt know he hit a person, and thats why he didnt stop. even though he swerved into his driveway, on the other side of the road, at some retarded speed on a residential road.

he even broke the headlight buld with his knee when he got hit...

WHAT THE FUCK is wrong with people.

and for what its worth, we're all able to joke about it now. i dont even know how many gymnastics jokes, cheer leading jokes.....have been tossed around by us while looking back at it.

it kinda helps, it makes everyone laugh when we point out how the olympian gymnast in the bed hurt himself doing a double back tuck except when he landed his boot decided to spin itself around.

What do you have against Mexicans?? I simply asked if the driver was a US citizen. I'm sorry I should have asked if he was in the US legally. Whenever I am traveling abroad I obey the laws and make sure I meet whatever insurance requirements they have. I only ask because I was in a bad car accident several years ago where I was hit by a drunk driver, uninsured, no license, in the US illegally. My condolences to your friend I hope he makes a full recovery and has insurance that will pay regardless of the other party. I'm sorry you feel you have to resort to name calling I wasn't trying to instigate anything I was just curious if the other driver was in the US legally.

If you mention he was breaking several laws, and I ask if he was breaking another law, that is inappropriate? Please explain.

"I simply asked if the driver was a US citizen."
No, you were trolling. Take it elsewhere.

Admin allisolm

Actually, it's a pretty relevant question. This scum bag is going to be prosecuted but if he's not a US citizen it gets more complicated. International law is involved and imprisoning him if he's a citizen of another country can be a problem. Then there's diplomatic immunity if he's involved with an embassy or the like.

Chances are he's just a drunk scum bag but who knows? Seems like a relevant question to me. Why are you all jumping down his throat?

I'm glad your friend is doing okay, BlackTigers. I have no sympathy for drunk drivers.

Why so much hate? I just asked a simple question. Driver is unlicensed and uninsured, I think it's reasonable to ask if the driver was a citizen, is that so unreasonable?

How is it reasonable? My sister's car was hit by an unlicensed, uninsured US driver. There are plenty of them out there.

Then the fact that the driver was unlicensed and uninsured has no relevance to the thread, OP shouldn't have mentioned that in the first place.

You're either an idiot or a troll. Or both.

Here in Texas some companies offer 30 day insurance, so that people can be insured for long enough to renew their registration then go about their business being uninsured. They should make you prove you were insured for the entire duration of the previous year to get the registration renewed.

What happens if you're just not driving for a period of time then you start again. there are lots of reasons for not carrying insurance other than being irresponsible.

I can tell you from personal experience, in NY, it most definitely makes no difference. The people that want to be uninsured will still be uninsured. They'll just do so with a suspended license and registration.
