I also have to add my 2cents that the original guy who asked "was he illegal or not" may have been trolling, but it's a damn freaking legitimate question and this mod was way too quick to jump down. I don't know if he's a regular troll or what, but along with at least 4 other people in this thread, my first and only question that was unanswered was whether or not the drunk driver was illegal.

Around so cal, you better be wary of illegals without insurance driving ghetto cars.

Actually, it's a pretty relevant question. This scum bag is going to be prosecuted but if he's not a US citizen it gets more complicated. International law is involved and imprisoning him if he's a citizen of another country can be a problem. Then there's diplomatic immunity if he's involved with an embassy or the like.

Chances are he's just a drunk scum bag but who knows? Seems like a relevant question to me. Why are you all jumping down his throat?

I can tell you from personal experience, in NY, it most definitely makes no difference. The people that want to be uninsured will still be uninsured. They'll just do so with a suspended license and registration.

Your personal anecdotal experience is contrary to measured statistics. NY has one of the lowest rates of uninsured drivers in the nation. 4th lowest, in fact.

I will play devil's advocate and say alcohol is a wonderful, wonderful, wonderful legal drug. It doesn't make people suck cock for a fix or sell all their belongings like a heroin, coke, speed, or pcp addcition might. It has about the same medicinal purpose as coca cola, which is also terrible for society for the tooth decay and obesity it causes.

sure it does. i know you're making an equally sweeping generalization but surely you have shelters in your area with just as many drunks as addicts. many, many alvoholics have drank themselves homeless with nothing left but the their irish luggage and the clothes on their back.
