I have to kind of agree here...you KNOW youre drunk and there is a good chance you could hurt someone...we need to get rid of the stupid people if we want to thrive as a species...how do you think other animals lived so long?
And I really hate DUI lawyers...they are the worst...theres one here in Atlanta whose radio ad goes something like "If you have a DUI I CAN get keep you from going to jail, I CAN clean your criminal record, I CAN make you keep your license"...something like that...everytime I hear it it makes me sick...you CAN make drunk drivers feel better about driving
Just like people who are serving multiple life sentences in prison...WHAT IS THE POINT OF KEEPING THEM ALIVE?! To eat 10,000's of thousands of tax payers money every year for EVERY murderer, rapist, what have you thats in the prison system? I cant even IMAGINE what the world would be like if those billions could be used elsewhere in society!

A black fck ran a red turn light and pulled out in front of me on the interstate... he was 3X over the legal limit and my truck T-Boned their car right on the middle passenger side beam @60mph. Somehow I was ok but it totaled my truck. Stupid MFer crawled out and tried to switch seats with the passenger b/c he already had priors and just got out of prison. Luckily there were a bunch of EMT's driving by that stopped to help and saw him to back up my account. The state troopers didn't even have to ID the fcker when they arrived b/c they knew him by face. I've stopped holding my breath on getting the deductible back after 5 years since the guy went back to prison as a result of the accident. Drunken black felons should not be allowed on the road.ever.again.

Damn, that's really fucked-up. Just think, it could have been A LOT worse though... it sounds like your friend is going to recover, albeit slowly. He could have been injured worse, or killed.

That was my first thought as well. I live in "illegal immigrant central" where shit like this is fairly common...but too often, the driver, usually an illegal immigrant, escapes back to Mexico and evades prosecution.
I've seen a couple of accidents like the one in the OP. I always wished I was properly equipped..

Hope your friend mends ok and there's no permanent disability from the actions of an asshole, irresponsible driver...and I hope the driver gets some serious jail time...but I doubt that will happen.

IMO, driving should not be regarded as one's right. It's a privilege and the courts, the legal system should be much more willing to withdraw that privilege. This guy who hit your friend very probably has a record that clearly reflects his being a threat to human safety. He should have been dealt with far more severely than he was and this would never have happened. Yes, he was a scofflaw driving without a license, but he belonged in jail.

I don't care what color they are, they shouldn't be allowed to drive again ever. Put the fear in people that being a blatant irresponsible driver will mean they won't drive again and they will be more careful.

As someone who has been hit and almost killed by a drunk driver, I sympathize with you and your friend OP. F'ing scary stuff.
I got hit while stopped in my mother's 1993 toyota Corolla at a traffic light in Prince William county VA. The guy who hit me was going about 50MPH in a new GMC pick up. The front of his truck pushed the trunk of my car into the back seat, and his front bumper ended up only 6 inches from my back. Dazed, I got out of my car, just in time to see the guy back up, turn right down smoketown road, and start speeding like a bat out of hell. Luckily, there was a cop 100 yards up giving another motorist a ticket. I ran up, and explained what happened. The cop told me to hop into the back of his car, and we we sped off after the drunk. The cop called in an APB on the car, and 2 minutes later their was a call over the radio reporting that the guy had been pulled over doing 100 MPH on smoketown road with no headlights (they were both broken on the back of my car). He was 33, shitfaced drunk, had no insurance, and still lived with his mom. He got his licensed suspended for three years and 500 hours of community service. Should have done jail time, the bastard.

I think you should add - don't drive if you don't know how to drive and you live life in a drunken stupor.
Good luck to your friend on the best recovery possible, and this kind of thing really makes me consider life insurance...
*boggle* what?! the driver being unlicensed and uninsured tells people that the driver knew he shouldn't have been on the road, and also leads reasonable people to assume that there was a reason why he didn't have his license/insurance.
on the other hand, asking if the driver was a citizen enough has little if any relevance to the thread. it matters not whether the driver was a US citizen, illegal immigrant, permanent resident, or someone applying for a green card....if you're drunk or unlicensed/uninsured, you shouldn't be behind the wheel.
Well if the guy just happens to "disappear" after he gets out I'm sure no one will care.
