Anyone else? Lol

Yesterday, my free day and my off day crossed paths like they usually do every now and then and oh boy was I bored to death.

Then today, I've been sitting at work all day with the itch to work out and finally, 9 hours later, I feel great hitting the weights :D

Do you bring music along? I'd die of boredom without music at the gym.

I lift at home. Just turn up my radio. LOL. Really the main reason I lift is for playing basketball. Its real world application of your hard work in the gym.

Momentum is an awesome thing to have, and it sounds like you're rockin' it.

I got back from a 1-week trip out of town, and came back with a very touch illness, so I have almost none right now. Restarting this weekend tho.

You have to respect off days are part if the process.

I find that yoga is badass for off days, just keep it light.

I keep telling myself that I need to start yoga but when the weekend comes around I just get super lazy and never do.

If I didn't get so much better results after an off day I'd agree with ya. Just doesnt feel right not working out on those days.

Thinking of joining the local Y so I can swim on those days.

I honestly cannot do ANYTHING but lay back and be lazy at home, if I ever want to do something I need to get out or die waiting to get things done.

I only hate that I'm obsessed with the idea that I'll gain 50 lbs if I don't do any sort of physical activity for a day but I don't hate the off day in itself. I love it and wish everyday was an off day if I could keep my physique.

Hehe, that's definitely the wonderful thing about them and it's what keeps me so pumped up at work to go to the gym as soon as I get out.

What kind of exercises do you do for basketball? Squats and box jump kind of things, or do you do those advanced exercises the pros do?

I have mixed feelings about my day off and they really depend on how the week before went. There are some weeks, like this week that I need my Saturday to rest and recover for one reason or another. There are other weeks where it's not nearly as important for me to recover and I try to be a bit more active. In general I don't like doing nothing, so in that sense I dislike my rest days but at the same time rest days and de-loads are just part of the system and they're there for a reason. But I also only take up to 4 rest days a month, I'm not always lifting heavy but I'm always doing something physical.

I tried to take as few off days as possible until I realized I was massively over training by going to the gym and doing full body workouts 4 days a week.

Meh, now taking time off doesn't feel as bad.

It's doubtful you were over training with only 4x a week. Your diet/sleep might have been an issue though. I'm cutting weight, slowly, in the gym 6x a week and moving tons of weight and not feeling over trained. When the semester ends and I throw in 4 hours of Judo, 2 hours of wrestling and start Oly lifting training on top of my current schedule I might change my mind though.

Nothing crazy. Just your avg weight routine. Squats are the big thing though. I went from being a guy that couldn't jump and kinda slow to the guy that's all over the court grabbing rebounds, loose balls, etc.. Some guys have speed and explosiveness naturally. I didn't. Weight training changed it completely. I stick to the main stuff squat deadlift and bench.

Do you weight train for basketball? I know you said you play before.

I do squats, deads and box jumps.

I've seen some of the crazy stuff Todd Wright does for the UT basketball team:

I've been curious to try some of that stuff out, but without any kind of defined routine I'm not sure how much it would help or hinder things.
