sounds like you've already made up your mind, you just want our approval and some rationalization behind your decision. looks like you've got it.

I just left a similar situation. HORRIBLE micro-managing GM, who constantly beat down the employees. Mumbled under his breath, shook his head disapprovingly, wouldn't respond or just give dirty look when you say "Good morning!"..

I finally told them to stick it (40k+ yr job), I'm too old (38), too experienced and talented to be treated like an idiot. Life's too short to work for abusive assholes.

From what you say about the company - they have major moral issues (like the company I just left), and there's usually one person that just sucks the life out of the company. Unless they fix that, they will not grow, or may go out of business. Good time to bail.

I would like to see the letter!

I wouldn't have let them get off without paying you. That just feeds into their mentality of screwing people.

Yeah waiting tables sucks, I was just pointing out that its easier to get a much higher paying job if you need it.

it is clear from the OP that the poster is a women, look at how many times the complaints are about the people/not being "nice"

you don't get paid to hang out with "nice" people, you get paid to work. that is why they call it work and not "fun"

First, that's a BS assertion that it's a woman for that reason.

Secondly, they screwed her around by promising medical benefits and then not delivering. That is huge! Unless they plan on majorly bumping up her hourly wage, which they won't do, then it's not worth it. I would quit.

Normally, I'd say "screw it" and leave, but I know the job market in your area is not the greatest.

I've never done that before.

*edit* It sounds like you guys are feeling the same about my initial take on this job
and don't think its worth it.

if you go on a date with someone that is a total prick, is it ok to walk out on the date?

you are a smart girl and you can make 8/hr at places where you can get some respect.

tell them to f off and dont think twice about it

its not worth the suffering for a PT job that is supposed to be low stress

I would probably quit as well. I would go in and say that you were really hoping for the benefits, and since they renegged on this... after giving it careful consideration, I'd like to thank you for the opportunity but I'm no longer interested. Bye!

Or you could just lie and say that you just got a call from another employer who was willing to offer you much better compensation, and it would be best for both parties if you left now, instead of having them invest in you (which they really aren't doing).

Just some ideas. Hope it all works out for you.

I give them 2 weeks and see how things go, quit if the situation proceeds. $8 an hour is no job to worry about. I wouldn't even care if I burn the bridge with that kind of place. You can find better else where.

My wife had a position like this once ... she phoned me at 3:30 to come pick her up. She had applied to a technical college to do some instructing, and they told her everything was planned, she just had to modify things for herself.

The interview was brilliant, enough to get her to leave her previous position, which paid a lot more, but didn't stimulate her at all. Benefits were great, she was working close to my office etc.

She goes into work, and the same thing as you ... she tried to be friendly, no one even responded to her hellos. Once she finally tracked down her new boss, she was kept waiting for 45 minutes, at which point she was brusquely asked to teach the admin assistant HTML (not remotely part of her job description). She mentioned she had a few questions, and had her head ripped off. Everyone was totally stressed, hated the boss, etc., so it just wasn't a welcoming work environment. To top it all off, none of her lessons were remotely planned, and her workload just flew through the roof.

She walked out, much to her happiness and mine, telling them that they totally misrepresented themselves during the interview, and that she wanted no part of that culture. No fallout came from this in any way, and shortly thereafter, she found a perfect job for her that she loves to this day.

Don't suffer fools gladly, it will cause too many unhappy moments. Good luck!

If you don't need the money, you quit now. That's the whole point of doing it *now*.

The company isn't out any money to train you, and you don't have to explain any gaps in your employment record when you next interview but don't want to use them as a reference or are not willing to admit to a potential employer that you quit after 3 months.

If you quit now it will be your little (and ATOT's) secret
