For everyone trying so hard to build muscle...you realize once you stop that entire training things you will start losing weight? My roomie had the same problem~ he is like 5'5'' or so and he was building muscle...he built up pretty well and got to like 160. But then when he came to college ( i lived with him int he dorms last year) he started to lose about EIGHT pounds every 1/2 week because his body metabolism is so crazy. He eats BIG breakfast lunches and dinner, he gets meats like crazy and he just can't stay up. So just to maintain his weight he spends about 2 hours each day at the gym. he even buys packs of BREAD and eats them throughout the day to get ANY kind of cabs/fat because he can't cook worth crap. boiling water or making cereal sacres him But is that really worth it? I mean i can undersatnd not being scrawny, but you don't need to have pecs that rival Ahhhnollld or something.

edit:

i can not eat for 3 days straight and i won't lose weight. and not eating includes drinking. I have the opposite metabolism of you.

And for people all happy that they wake up weighing ligther than when they sleep...DUH!!!!!! You haven't eatn for 6-10 hours or consumed any fluids! Of course your weight will drop! What do you expect?!?!

www.bodybuilding.com

There are many step-by-step resources there that can help you out - even if you only have dumbells.

WTF

And you're complaining?

exactly, WTF
I weigh approximately 125lbs.

How tall are you? I'm in the same boat man, been trying to gain weight for years with no luck. :p

I know the feeling, I try to put on weight but all that happens is I lose definition on my abs. The only thing worse than being too skinny is being skinny with no definition...

Do some push-ups with your feet elevated and one of those 30lbs dumbells sitting across your neck, as low down as possible. It takes a bit to get used to it, but that essentially puts an extra 30lbs on your elevated pushups. If you have a SO, you can have her sit on you to add weight (just adjust where she sits to adjust the additional resistance).

For abs, see my previous post regarding two man ab workouts.

You could try either squatting, which will build up your quads pretty quick, or slightly bending your knees. However, since you are a runner... I would think your quads would be fairly strong.

You would think, but I'm pretty sure they're weak compared to my hammies. I've been lifting lately, focusing on my quads, to try to even out the strength and keep my IT bands from hating me. I used to have strong quads in HS and junior college, when we did a lot of hills, but the complete lack of any inclines here has reduced my leg strength considerably.

Do some full squats. Not just making your thighs parallel to the ground, but going all the way down till your butt is about three inches off the ground (or wherever your flexibility makes you bottom out). Do three sets, and adjust the weights to make sure your rep total for the three sets is between 12 and 18 (ie, 4 to 6 reps per set). Within a month you'll have rather visible results (assuming you have the typical low BF% of most runners).

I think you should do less reps and heavier weights to gain muscle. Maybe pick weights that are heavy enough so that you can only do 8 reps and the last rep (8th) be the worse push ever.

Jesus, 2 lbs...your metabolism must be crazy. Feel lucky, at least when you're older you won't ever have to worry about gaining weight.
