I've successfully put on ~30 lbs of muscle with a change in diet and weight lifting. I can help you guys out if you're serious... because before I started I was about 5' 10" and 130 lbs, just skinny as hell and pretty bummed out about it.

i'm 5'11 and about 150, skinny haha
I'm 5'10" and 165. By no means am I huge but I'm cut. The change between 130 and 165lbs is tremendous when you're reasonably tall.

I'd like to gain weight but I always stop whatever it is I do after 2 months or so, since I don't see good results.

If you've looked into it at all I'm sure you've been drilled with the idea that you need to *eat eat eat*. Well when I first started looking into it I realized that I barely ate at all. Maybe your typical school lunch, dinner, maybe a snack. Combine that with a high metabolism and you are getting nowhere fast.

I started out just eating small things to fill in the hours and that kept the metabolism at bay, I guess. If you want to get bigger you have to eat bigger and LIFT BIGGER WEIGHTS. Use a protein shake in the morning afternoon and evening... better yet - whenever you feel a tiny tingle of hunger. Just keep a power product somewhere, get a shaker, drop in a few scoops, add some water, shake it up and then drink it. The whole process takes about a minute at the most and there really isn't an excuse not to do it. Plus you need to WORK OUT 3 times a week. If you don't have a gym that's fine but at least do something with your body (i.e. pushups, pullups, lift a dresser, move tables, whatever) so that your hard earned calories aren't put into (entirely) fat. If you have the time to cook or always have leftovers in the fridge just EAT it. Rich in protein foods like chicken, beef, eggs are VERY good and I'm always adding these to my meals. Just a protein/weight gainer shake isn't going to cut it, but it will definitely help.

This could be different for everybody, but that's what it did for me. 35 lbs of muscle in about a year is definitely progess. In combination with a larger diet and my continued workouts, I plan to reach 185 by June. It's doable, you guys. Stay motivated and you'll see results in no time.

I hate your body too.

I tend to be just under 130 pounds no matter what, whether I run 70 miles a week or 0, and whether I eat Taco Bell or salad.

For pushup, i do 2 sets of 30s then 2 set of 20s
For crunches: Sets of 20, can't swallow my saliva when i do more than 20 per set, it just hurt.

I weight 150 pounds at 6 feet 1 inch. Trying to gain about 30 pounds
I have the flu right now, so my weight could plummet.

That's not going to cut it, man. I do stuff similar like that *before* my workout.

My weight refuses to change.
On the other hand, nothing I can do seem to stop my teeth from going bad, as my immune system all but doesn't work, I can't digest half the food I eat, I can barely make it up a flgiht of stairs if I walk by a smoker (and then on fours sometimes), I can't drink the local tap water, have nasty allergies, and no physical stamina. I also have trouble consciously filtering out white and brown noise, and flashing things (like ads on places like this). Oh, and I just got over being posessed (say what you will--but if you're going to make fun of me, at least make it genuinely funny).

So: just stop missing meals and consider yourself lucky.

Forget crunches, try this, although it requires a workout partner:
Lie down on the floor on your back, with your legs extended straight out. Have your partner place their feet on either side of your head, facing your body. Grasp your workout partner's legs right above the ankles, and try to kick them by bringing your legs straight up and towards your partner's chest (all while straight legged). Your partner's job is to push your legs back down before getting hit in the chest, and may push them somewhat to one side or the other to make it harder on you.

It's one hell of a nice ab workout. As you get better, try it with some heavily insulated steel toe boots ;)

Regarding the push-ups: high rep low weight exercises do not do a very good job of encouraging muscle growth. Get yourself to a gym or some free weights.

Those work very well, but for some reason they hurt my quads. I guess I'm just weak. But man do the abs feel great after a few sets of those.

Lyme disease, but that's mainly as bad as it is because of our crappy food and crappy air. My body wants to get rid of it all, rather than get used to the world as it is.

WTF

And you're complaining?

exactly, WTF
I weigh approximately 125lbs.

How tall are you? I'm in the same boat man, been trying to gain weight for years with no luck. :p
5'10, 5'11-ish.
Egad...that is thin.

I'm 5'6" and pretty constant at 155ish, but I have to lift and eat ridiculous amounts of food to keep from losing weight. When I visited my parents for Christmas, I stopped lifting for those 10 days and woke up too late for breakfast most days.

I was down to 140 lbs when I returned to Texas for New Year's Day :Q

You could try either squatting, which will build up your quads pretty quick, or slightly bending your knees. However, since you are a runner... I would think your quads would be fairly strong.

You would think, but I'm pretty sure they're weak compared to my hammies. I've been lifting lately, focusing on my quads, to try to even out the strength and keep my IT bands from hating me. I used to have strong quads in HS and junior college, when we did a lot of hills, but the complete lack of any inclines here has reduced my leg strength considerably.

I'm also in the same boat but I've been working out the upper body with 30 lb dumbells. However, I'd like to work on the chest and abs, how might i go about doing this with no fitness equipment and no gym membership :)?
