People who believe in all this fatalist sh!t are simply people who can't think for themselves. They can find no purpose in life, therefore they resign themselves to the fact that a higher being has a purpose for them. Since they can't know the purpose, they must live for it. Without purpose, we'd all still be apes running around in the woods. The invention of fire was not a miracle, it was an ape attempting to survive more efficiently.
What religions boil down to is a system of values enforced by faith. My personal view is that if you wish to believe in a faith, that is your perogative. But if your going to apply those faith-enforced values to the real world, you better have some non-religious backing for it. EX: Many people believe that embryos should not be used for stem cell research because it kills them, and thus a violation of god's commandments. You know what's going to happen to those embryos? Their going to get thrown in the trash! How about we honor their deaths by saving some lives with them?
