I use Desk Phone Lo on my Nokia. Only use a custom-ringtone when the girlfriend calls. It's the first 10 seconds from "When You Say Nothing at All"

How about the custom music (hold music?) you hear when you call people? I don't know about you guys, but when I call someone, I prefer hearing the tone I've been accustomed to hearing ever since I learned how to use a telephone.

And that comment just makes you sound old an stubborn. "I tell you sonny, why can't you just write a letter the old fashioned way. Why this email thingy?"

Old man

It's fine when the music they pick isn't annoying and recorded at 20kbps. Hey if being 26 and keeping things simple makes me an old man, then so be it. :D

I hate musical ring tones as well. Especially when it's loud and the owner of the phone often fails to pick up immediately.

Having said that, the only ring tone I downloaded is the CTU office phone ring from 24. I felt so cool. Then someone right next to me on the bus had the same tone :-(

To people who say you use it to identify people with, why not JUST LOOK AT THE DAMN SCREEN! You're going to either a) pick up your phone and answer it, or b) push a button to mute it.

The only people who appreciate your ring tone is yourself. It's essentially the same concept as people who blast their music while driving through a parking lot. No one gives a ****** about your music.

anyone that pays for ringtones is a idiot. it takes a few minutes to make one.

so those people that have phones without the data link and connect cable need to just buy the extra stuff to not suck? nah, its just a cost of convenience for some people.

my phone plays the theme from halloween when normal people call, and my wife and daughter have their own rings. im ok with that, its personal choice, not any need to seem cool in front of people at the local convenience store. when i go to restaurants or meetings, its on vibrate, i hate it when phones ring in restaurants as well.

There isn't a single phone on the market today that you cant get a data cable and software for. You just have to be knowledgeable.

it isnt a matter of being knowledgeable. its a matter of personal choice. you prefer to get the cable for your phone and make your own to save money, someone else prefers to pay the fee and save the time and personal hassle of going thru the motions. to them, maybe paying a fee for the downloaded song is worth their time they save from doing it themselves.

you people act like youre so friggin cool for making your own and not paying for ringtones, but in essence youre doing the same thing as a person that fixes their own car. some can, some cant. some pay mechanics to fix it for them due to time constraints, would you begrudge them and call them lame for paying a mechanic? pull your heads out of that high horses ass and think.

Best response yet

I have custom ringtones, and I'm proud of it. I never buy one, paying for ringtones is just dumb.

It's on vibrate most of the time though.

Same for me. Never will I buy a ringtone. Before I get a phone I make sure I can put what ever I want as a ring tone.

Some songs sound cool as ringtones... but I'm getting tired of all the people with Justin Timberlake - Sexy Back as their ringtone...

I do all of my own ring tones. I have some good ones, too. just edit the mp3 to the loop, or section of song you want, then bluetooth it to your phone...so simple.

I like it because I can identify who's calling just by the ring tone.

Only losers buy ring tones, and/or complain about others ring tones.

I mean really, if I met someone who started a convo with me over a ring tone I think it's safe to say I could push them off an apartment building and not a single person in the world would miss them.

I mean if you make your own..all the more power to you..but still...

edit: I Mean REALLY what are you hoping?? Some other slack jawed douche of the opposite gender is going to have the same ****** song for a ring tone and you two will live happily ever after producing child after child missing chromosomes?
Yup, that's pretty much the way it works. Animals sometimes use their environment to make up mating displays. We use cellphones.

Why take it out of my pocket to look at it if I can identify it by the ring tone? My phone has a couple of buttons on the side I can hit to mute it without opening the phone. I've learned to to hit them with my elbow since I spend most of my day wearing latex gloves it would be a hassle to take them off every time someone called, this way I can easily answer only the calls I need to.
