i have diffrent ones for diffrent people. but then found that my phone has a setting where it will say who and what number instead heh.

I'm an idiot for paying for my ringtone because I am not aware of a way to put one on my phone? If there was a way, I'd have to pay for the cable anyway.

But if you bought a cable you could be uber 1337 like waggy! :)

The fact that the ringer is a custom song isn't what bothers me, I just hate hearing any ringer in the wrong situations like restaurants, movies, etc. I mean how is a song more annoying than traditional loud beeping ring tones? There both inappropriate and annoying so I fail to see what would motivate you to hate one over the other .

I always have my phone on vibrate if I'm around other people as a courtesy. However when I'm at home or outdoors I set my phone to loud and have several custom rings like the intro to sweet child of mine or fade to black. Why listen to some boring repeating frequency when I can listen to one of my favorite tunes while I go to answer the phone? The purpose of the ring is to be loud and get my attention, theres no reason why it shouldn't be something I enjoy.

Well, if your phone's newer, it probably has a memory card which you can extract and to which you can transfer data. If it's older, it probably supports polyphonic (midi) tones, which you can e-mail to yourself (at least on verizon and t-mobile).

It's a cheap Audiovox phone with no card. I am able to email pictures out but that service isn't on and I'd have to pay for it (which I should do for a month so I can get the pics off my phone).

Anyway, I'm not sure if I would be able to email myself the ringtone and put it on there. I go through Alltel.

It's not like SILENT MODE on cell phones causes them to vibrate instead of ring anyway .

I hate ring tones and my cell phone is always on vibrate, no matter where I am. Well, I do take it off if I ever use the alarm feature, since having it on silent mode kind of removes the purpose of setting the alarm, no? Most tones are just too damn loud and obnoxious. I don't mind a normal phone noise (which is what my ring tone is set to when it's off vibrate), but I don't need to hear some queer song because you're Mr. Popular >_>.

Most of the time I have the phone on vibrate, but I do have different tones for different people. For example, I have the song from Police Academy (you know, the song that plays whenever someone goes into the Blue Oyster gay bar) as the ringtone for when one of my friends calls. What makes it even funnier is that when people have heard it play as the phone is ringing, everyone knows where the tune is from (regardless how old they are) and laughs because they think of Lt Proctor going into the gay bar wearing nothing but 2 garbage can lids.

Your an idiot if you pay 2 whatever for a song.

I have an SE w810i and I have over a hundred ringtones on it and haven't paid a single dime for any of them. Only the techno-laiman's actually pay for ringtones.

And frankly, I get all kind of cool comments about my phone ringtone. I always have some weird and obscure ringtone, not something from the top40. Just the other day i was somewhere and I had the mario bros ringtone on and this hot little girl was like "thats an awesome ringtone, where did you get it" of course it makes me look like a nerd but it can be a great conversation starter.

I think people who pay for ringtones are lame, but people who use the ones that came with their phone are much, much more lame

There isn't a single phone on the market today that you cant get a data cable and software for. You just have to be knowledgeable.

How about the custom music (hold music?) you hear when you call people? I don't know about you guys, but when I call someone, I prefer hearing the tone I've been accustomed to hearing ever since I learned how to use a telephone.

So I should go through the hassle of finding out how to get a song on my phone, purchase the cable/software, and do it myself instead of spending $2? Yeeahhh. I don't think so.

There are much more moronic things that cell phone users do than load lame ringtones. They are all of my favorite rants. Ill list em for ya :).

#1 . Morons playing with cell phones driving down the road and swerving all over the place.

#2 . The yelling morons in the stores/restaurants with the hands free. I know they are talkin on the phone but they look and sound as sane as one of those old bag ladies walking down the street yelling at no one.

#3 . The bluetooth headset. Ah yes. People wear these like fashion accessories. Im not even sure if they take them off at bedtime. A friend came over and was here for hours . No one called. Dumbass.

Oh god. This could go on for days. For some reason most people that use cellphones become mannerless trash as soon as they pick the thing up. it's as though somehow the use of the thing removes all etiquitte.

QFT. The only time my phone will ever ring (and it will ring like a normal phone) is when I go to sleep and set it to ring instead of vibrate.

I think so, yes. However I suppose if your only going to buy less then 5 ringtones in your whole life then your ok just giving your money away. Thats pretty much what your doing, giving it away.

If you have even the most basic knowledge of computers then you can figure it out. Took me about 5 minutes. I also use the cable to periodically backup the information on my phone. Once you learn it, you don't have to keep getting ripped off each time you want a new song. But if you like paying over double the cost of a normal song for a crappy version of that song, then go for it.

And that comment just makes you sound old an stubborn. "I tell you sonny, why can't you just write a letter the old fashioned way. Why this email thingy?"

I have two ringtones that I created on my synthesizer: one for folks I know, the other for all the rest. It was a pain to get them to work on my Samsung T509. T*Mobile's got those babies pretty well locked down. But I finally figured out the workarounds and got them loaded.

Although, I'm in meetings 80% of my day at work, so my phone is usually set to vibrate.

Why not just make it silent?

Using the vibrate feature does not make you cool!

 The vibrate function serves to notify me of an incoming call while not announcing it to an entire room of strangers who really don't give a flying crap if I have an incoming call.

yet the action of reaching for your phone, looking down and hitting a few buttons alerts everyone in a room that youre getting a call anyway, so whats the difference?

There's a big difference if you are in the middle of a meeting at work. Looking down and hitting a few buttons on your phone will go far less noticed than when some goofy tune starts playing while someone important to your job security is talking.

yet youre still notifying a room full of people that could care less about your phone call. that was your context and excuse, i just played inside those rules. personally, when im in a meeting that has that much weight on my career, my phone is on silent so i dont even know im getting a call in the first place until i get out of the meeting. but, everyone has their own ways.

Yeah I'm sure I could figure it out. I only downloaded one ringtone though and I don't plan on getting any more. Doing it and buying that cable would be a waste for me.

The arguments in this thread have reached a new low, even for ATOT

So what your saying is that you have absolutely no private life, and the only time you use or even consider using your phone is in meetings or at work? Sorry but, surely you realize you can change your phone to vibrate while in those meetings, or in the work environment and then *switch*, i know its crazy, it is - but yea you can switch to a ringtone once you get off. I know, I don't know how I come up with these things

you people act like youre so friggin cool for making your own and not paying for ringtones, but in essence youre doing the same thing as a person that fixes their own car. some can, some cant. some pay mechanics to fix it for them due to time constraints, would you begrudge them and call them lame for paying a mechanic? pull your heads out of that high horses ass and think.

You can easily stop a phone from vibrating without the person next to you knowing, not to mention the whole room. Alternatively, you can let it vibrate and not touch the phone at all, and then you'll definitely be the only person who knows you got a call.
