edit: I Mean REALLY what are you hoping?? Some other slack jawed douche of the opposite gender is going to have the same ****** song for a ring tone and you two will live happily ever after producing child after child missing chromosomes?

It's not just for coolness factor, it's so that you can easily identify the calls that you need to pick up, or ignore.

But the point is, why use a song as that ringtone?

My friend's phone plays the sound clip of Quagmire's "Oh god.. oh my god!.....oh oh god!.." when he realized Taylor Hanson wasn't in fact a chick.

It's to identify that it is your phone in situations where there are other people around with cell phones. When I hear "To far away times", I know it's my phone :)

I don't download ringtones. I make my own and put them on the phone with the interface cable.

I just really don't like any of the tones that came on my phone. If I hear some generic preloaded ringtone go off I wonder "was that my phone" whereas if I hear the ringtone I created I know it's my phone. I could really give a sh!t less what people think of my ringtone. My phone is muted anytime I go into a public place anyhow. One of my biggest pet peeves phones going off in the middle of a restaurant.

Because sometimes, the song means something to that person. Take my gf for instance, her ringtone for me is Nothing Gonna Stop Us Now (yeah, i know, cheesy right?) and I think it's cute. For her friends, she has some other ringtones for them as well. And you don't have to pay for these ringtones, her phone is well capable of using the MP3s on it to play as ringtones.

Disclaimer: I don't use ring tunes, I use whatever that comes with my blackberry.

I sort of agree with you in that people who are obsessed with the fvcking things are annoying. People that open their phone up and play you every fvcking one of their ringtones, all the way through. Ugh.

Anyway, on my phone, every single ring, with the possible exception of one, is complete bullsh!t. So I have a ringtone I downloaded.

I like them. makes it easy to tell when my phone is ringing, and not someone else's who has all the same standard ringtones as mine does.

Better yet, why not just use the vibrate feature? Ringers suck.

They suck, but not nearly as bad as the stupid ass kids on the light rail that listen to whole songs from their phone when even just the beat is almost indistinguishable from static.
