I hate car salesmen!!!!!!!!!

Is there any worse process than buying a new car? I think not. It's fairly simple. I give sell you a widget and you sell me a widget.

stop trying to sell with a fargin' monthly payment! I told you I don't care!!!!!!!!!!

Look moron, it's real simple. I want 10,500 for my widget that I am selling to you. Do you accept or do you not?

I wish to purchase your widget for X. Do you accept or not?

"well there's fees, and then, well you know, there's other costs involved"

No you ****** moron. You offered me 8000 for my widget which is 1500 less than loan value. You insult me. Then you insult me even more by not offering your advertised price of the widget you wish to sell. F you, I was going to give you a sale today and you insult me. F you. I say straight to your face "I was going to buy your car, you insult me. F you."

I TOLD YOU I DON'T CARE ABOUT MONTHLY PAYMENT, I WANT TO SEE THE PRICE OF THE CAR. I made an offer and you come back with a montly payment. f'in moron!

Doing everything by phone from here on out like I'm used to. I don't have time for you to dick around. What part of best and final do you not get!

Yeah it takes a while to get through sometimes to the sales people that I've talked with when buying a car that monthly payment is irrelevant. Payment however does sell them quite a few more cars I'm sure, albeit to the possibly less savvy who end up finding out the hard way when they get someone to interpret the contract that they signed.

Good rant, 7.5/10.

Just call up a few places, ask to speak to the manager or something, tell them exactly what you want and the price you want. If they agree, ask if they can fax you a copy of that. Do this with 2-3 stealerships and get done with the process, a lot of salesmen suck and just don't understand that the more they push stuff we don't want, the more likely we are to just forget the whole damn thing and leave.

what you do is you find the car you want. write your offer on a card with phone number. and say, "here is my offer, give me a phone call if you accept," and walk out.

Maybe you should keep the car you have and not be a mindless follower of the rampant consumerism that you claim to loathe. Does buying cars when you haven't yet paid off your current car not count because it's a "hobby" of yours?

Where did the OP say his car wasn't paid off? Maybe the OP needs a different vehicle, like a van for a family or a pickup truck for their new line of work.

Pretty stupid comment by you.

That's the answer. They can't jerk you around unless you let them jerk you around. Only one person can control things and if it isn't you it will be them. If you asked for a price and they came back with a payment your next move is towards the door. Then they come running and you regain control. It's that simple.

The internet is your friend. I sent emails to all the local dealers with the specs for the truck I wanted, had bids back within an hour. Got the exact truck I wanted for about 2k less than I could by walking in.
At some dealers when you buy this way they run you through the fleet channel, no bs, no haggling. I went back to the same guy when I bought my wifes car, he handed me the key to the window lock boxes where they keep the car keys, told me to test drive anything on the lot, then come inside and tell him when I found the one I wanted. It just couldn't be any easier.

What is so bad about negotiating (or making) monthly payments? Some (most) people cannot afford to simply buy a car outright.

That salesman should've sold you the car based on the price and then put a $1500/mo payment into your contract.

Edit: fixed bold tag

An 04 TL is only worth $10,500? 😕

Anyway, the solution to this is to never negotiate at the dealership. Especially not in a sales box with a half-trained monkey running numbers back and forth between you and the sales manager. Always negotiate over the phone or internet. Dealerships are for test drives, taking delivery, and service.

Because it has nothing to do with buying a car outright or not. Negotiating solely on monthly payments is a deceitful sales tactic used to hide the actual cost-to-own price. So great, they offer you a low monthly payment, but what's the term? How do you know they didn't jack up the price and that low monthly payment isn't a 96 month term?

ALWAYS negotiate on the basis of sales price. Yes, the buyer should have a monthly payment in mind that they can afford, but that payment should be calculated on the basis of a reasonable interest and as short a term as is affordable. Which the buyer should know before they even talk to a salesman. Do your homework.

because they make more money if you finance. that's when they really rip you off.

they make money selling you a car
they make more money by low-balling your trade-in
then they make even more money by suckering you into extra warranty or accessory
they make a killing by giving you financing "deals"

I almost punched a car salesman in the face once, but my dad grabbed me and told me to leave

They advertised a Toyota 4runner Limited for cheaper than EVERYWHERE else. I called and they said they had it in stock. I am like OK.

Go there and they don't have it. Guy said they have it. I wait for 15 minutes and he kept assuring me someone was bringing it. My dad at this point said they don't have it and let's leave. I told him there is no reason for him to lie. why would he lie??

He finally comes out and says no I think these 2 girls over there (pointed to some room) just bought the car and it is being washed. He then explained that he can try to get the car from them since they haven't signed for it yet and their credit is not good.

I ask to see the ****** car. Salesman is like it is being washed.... so I wait another 15 minutes because I want the 4runner that is so cheap.

Salesman is chilling watching t.v.

I'm waiting like 45minutes now. I am pissed off and my dad is outside with my mom shaking his head telling her "he'll learn. let him learn". I don't understand why he would lie to me.. bastard scumbag salesman.

So finally I get up and I ask the 2 girls if they bought a 4runner and they said no they bought some used honda. I go to the salesman and he doesn't know wtf to say and said the car is in the back just wait.
WHY THE HELL DID YOU MAKE ME WAIT?? I was making a big scene and my dad came in and grabbed my arm and pulled me out. I wanted to punch everyone.

If my parents weren't there.... I can't believe they were right. I still don't understand this b.s.

The first thing I tell car salesman is that I know their invoice price, I don't buy on monthly payments, and I want your best price the first time. If I don't get any of those 3, I walk. And I mean it.

because getting a loan based on payments and not the cost of the car is idiotic. the salesmen will ask what you can afford a month. you say $400. so they get you a loan for 96 months at $400 on a $14000 car. OR they give you %23 when you can get 5%

I still don't understand why you all keep blowing off negotiating on the monthly payments. Some people (me included) just can't afford to pay more then a couple hundred a month. Am I not allowed to buy a car because a low monthly payment is what's important to me?
