the only advice I can give that means anything to me:
don't get involved in a fight unless you mean to win it. And that just may include the death of your opponent.

First, you gotta shriek like a woman and keep sobbing until he turns away in disgust. That's when it's time to kick some back. And then when he's lying down on the ground, kick him in the ribs, step on his neck, and run like hell.

interesting thread, i glanced over some of the responses and here's my 2 cents:

1) you wont have enough time to think stuff through like in the movies. once you and your opponent are in the go zone most fights will end in seconds. it might seem like a long time if you're one of the participants but it's simply not so. therefore you have to get your punches in quickly and effectively.

2) the 3 areas that are most effective imo are throat, nose and balls. i usually go in that order and then go for the knee (might not be necessary if a good kick
in the nuts connects and they drop to their knees) so they lose their ability to evade for just enough time for you to throw an elbow or a knee in the face.

^- if all of the above connected with sufficient force and you're roughly in the same weight category BUT they keep coming at you - they are on drugs
and you need to go with grappling and choking

One thing that's very important that can mean a lost fight on your end is if you punch someone really hard in the cranial region or in the forehead. You WILL break your fingers and sometimes you can even break your hand/wrist if you don't have a proper technique.

And another thing, sometimes when you knock them down, you need to back off a bit because most people will realize they're beat at this point and usually don't want a 2nd round. Just help them up and let them keep whatevers left of their dignity.

ya know, i never knew there were so many ninjas on ATOT. Who wants to bet that half of the people giving out advice have never been in a fight?

wfn, thats probably the most useful advice i've seen on here yet besides the "whip it out cause no one wants to fight a naked guy" post =).

In the "fight or flight" adrenaline rush, no one remembers anything, especially not some random ATOT thread. It's all about training and muscle memory.

aim at their face, a good punch should knock the guy out cold. make an example of one of the dudes by pissing on his face while he's down and out, it should make them think twice what they're getting into next time.

btw, don't even bother reasoning next time, it's a sign of weakness....weakness i tell ya!

Boy, I'd love to be the personal injury lawyer after the fighting tactics you all describe!

For Arizona, I hope you?re well versed in Arizona Revised Statutes Title 13 Chapter 4 because depending on the threat level everything I've said can be justified by Arizona law. By using the minimal force needed to halt an attack and escalating each successive maneuver until the threat is stopped, if the person keeps coming back fully aware that you are capable of defending yourself, that person assumes all risks involved in his unlawful actions.

Just because you successfully defended yourself and won, the other person is still guilty of assault. There is also the possibility of a counter suite for the emotional distress in being forced to use such extreme tactics on another human being against your will, etc.

I am not a lawyer, but with a certain level of training and experience, knowledge of the laws regarding use of force becomes a necessity that most people who have posted here do not think about.

I do. I came in here wanting to give out all the bits and pieces of advice I have picked up on the matter, but having never been in a serious all out slug fest...I kind of decided I wasn't really qualified to comment.

On the other side of this there is a video on the net where 5 guys start it with a single skater who proceeds to beat their ass. It's pretty funny, that guy threw down.

The reason that guy was able to take on 5 of the skaters is because they hesitated. He was aggressive and took the fight to them. Any one of them could have clocked him while he was kicking their friend's ass but they were scared and held back. He was so aggressive with the first attack on the first guy that the other guys were hesitant to engage in what could be a losing proposition.

Yeah, what I figured is they were inexperienced punks and thought they could intimidate and not actually get into any real fights with 5 of them present. They probably never expected anyone to stand up to all 5 of them.

My favorite part in that video is where one of the 5 guys does try to get in behind him but the skater turns around to face him and he backs away.

The skater is obviously more experienced than they are, able to maintain 360 deg awareness, strafing and circling to keep all 5 of them in view.
