How do you people not get cooking?
It's not that big of a stretch. Most people are uncomfortable doing something they're not familiar with and cooking is pretty easy to screw up.

(you people?)

you people is not a racist term.

I believe he means all the people that dont get cooking.
Never thought racism was intended. That would be quite a leap.

Sorry misunderstood you, That last bit threw me off.

I am going to make some tomato soup

I'll try to find stuff that's easy and fast enough to make at first then move to more complex stuff but time is the main thing as I'll be busy. Though I can probably multitask a lot too. I can clean while dinner is cooking. That's what my mom does, she'll be cooking a huge supper, vacuum, talk on the phone, dust, and watch her soap opera, all at the same time.

it will give you tons of simple tasty meal ideas.

Great! Now all you have to do is learn to...

Read and understand a bus/train/plane timetable
Use a map
Use a compass
Start a fire without a lighter/matches
Repair/maintain a bicycle
Iron clothes
Make a bed
Learn basic first aid
Learn to swim
Learn how to use hand tools
Plant a garden
Use a shovel
Estimate
Change the oil
Recognize poison ivy/poison oak
Train a dog
Learn gun safety and how to shoot
How to do basic sewing
Prioritize
Play the game and,
you'll know almost as much as the average twelve year old of my generation. :)

I don't understand people that don't enjoy cooking. Good cooking is good living.

Right now I've got a large pork butt soaking in some brine for tomorrow, when it will sit on my ceramic smoker a la Alton Brown for a solid 12 hours in applewood smoke. I haven't done one in a few weeks so I'm really looking forward to some yummy pulled pork.

For breakfast tomorrow morning, I'll be making my girlfriend and me some sourdough-battered french toast with caramelized bananas and maple syrup, accompanied by some cast-iron fried potatoes o'brien, a few fried eggs cooked up n' basted, and either bacon or sausage -- I haven't decided which. Oh and we'll probably be drinking mamosa's, too. :)

Earlier this week we prepared a cedar-planked wild steelhead filet on the grill with garlic mashed potatoes and fried green beens with bacon pieces. Marinated chicken breasts on the grill are like the last resort when we're planning our meals.

How do you people not get cooking?

I hate cooking. It's not enjoyable to me at all.

Stop now, I'm close to tears imagining the injustice. Oh wait. Did I just hear a saber-toothed tiger? Gotta run...

We did all those things and our chores for which we were paid the princely sum of 50 cents a week and, that's the way we liked it. Lazy assed, soft bellied, snot nosed momma's boys! Why, I aught to... what were we talkin' about?

a couple dozen oysters on the half shell, some tabasco, lemon wedges, a sleeve of saltines, and an ice cold shiner beats moreton bay bugs.

Pppfffshht, that's nothing! I got Orsorum and linuxboy to make me beer-battered cod for dinner, and it was even cod we caught ourselves! All I had to do was the dishes, w00t!

Seriously, congrats on a job well done. :) Guys who cook are chick magnets, and most cooking beginner-mid range cooking is as easy as what you did tonight. Don't get fancy with the mousses, custards or souffles and you'll do just fine.

Here here, I know about the Shiner being a Texas guy myself. Goes well with steak too!

I want to be surprised, but this is AT and I have a feeling there are people here pushing 30 that have never even cooked something that basic, so congrats.
Don't know where you're coming from. My dad, when he died at 87, could still barely make himself a cup of coffee. I would venture that over 50% of males can't or won't make their own meals. Also venture that 10-20% of females that do, shouldn't.

I don't know about that...even when I lived at home I may come home at 2-3am and want something to eat. I cooked it myself.
