What do you want? A fucking cookie for learning to do something you should have learned as a child?

I told my mom once to teach me how to cook these Vietnamese dishes that she had been making for me since I was a kid so I could make it when Im away in college. She laughed and told me that Im a guy, and to get a girl to cook for me.

Nah... I don't want a cookie. Normally after eating a meal I'd want some cookies within the next 2-3 hours, but this one is going on 6 hours and still holding me down as far as cookies go. ;)

I want to be surprised, but this is AT and I have a feeling there are people here pushing 30 that have never even cooked something that basic, so congrats.
Don't know where you're coming from. My dad, when he died at 87, could still barely make himself a cup of coffee. I would venture that over 50% of males can't or won't make their own meals. Also venture that 10-20% of females that do, shouldn't.

Good point.

I come from a family that was always working. My dad and stepmom were hardly there to cook dinner. I got bored of ramen noodles at the age of 13-14, and tried adding other things to it, like carrots and mushrooms, and the cooking fun only took off from there. My dad went to culinary school and told me lots of good things. So maybe I have an unfair advatage, but not enough to be surprised I have a full 10 years on someone cooking.

It sounds like your dad is a victim of misogyny, which also runs rampant on these boards...

I hate it when people call someone a misogynist or say misogyny when they don't know the definition. I can guarantee you his dad didn't hate women.

Personally, i only cook for others, if i'm by myself i'll just grill whatever is home and add soome kind of bread to that.

But i am pretty dam good in the kitchen when i have others to cook for, which would mainly be my kids when i am home, not one pair of trousers stays shut after a dinner of mine.

It's that good.

I enjoy cooking a lot...along with weightlifting I find it as a stress reliever and gets your mind off things.

It is a male who should have born a female and is missing a vagina.

-or-

You can look it up. Make a new browser window, click in the url window, clear it, type google and ctrl-enter. Now type misogynist and enter. You can now pick from several sources for a definition or description. You can also search for other things in google - it's pretty amazing.

While you're learning, lookup misanthrope (which is an anthropologist who continuously misses things).

Gynephobia is another interesting dimension - it's the fear of gynecologists.

It's useful to be comfortable looking shit up since you never know what someone is going to try to get past you.

Nah, like the op, he was just spoiled by both his mother and my mother. He brought home the bacon and they cooked it. For some reason, luckily, my mother made me do shit in the kitchen. Different times, I guess.

I don't understand people that don't enjoy cooking. Good cooking is good living.

Right now I've got a large pork butt soaking in some brine for tomorrow, when it will sit on my ceramic smoker a la Alton Brown for a solid 12 hours in applewood smoke. I haven't done one in a few weeks so I'm really looking forward to some yummy pulled pork.

For breakfast tomorrow morning, I'll be making my girlfriend and me some sourdough-battered french toast with caramelized bananas and maple syrup, accompanied by some cast-iron fried potatoes o'brien, a few fried eggs cooked up n' basted, and either bacon or sausage -- I haven't decided which. Oh and we'll probably be drinking mamosa's, too. :)

Earlier this week we prepared a cedar-planked wild steelhead filet on the grill with garlic mashed potatoes and fried green beens with bacon pieces. Marinated chicken breasts on the grill are like the last resort when we're planning our meals.

How do you people not get cooking?

I'm 23 and never cooked an actual meal. I want to buy a recipe book and start learning though as I don't want to be eating unhealthy all the time when I move into my new house. I'll try to find stuff that's easy and fast enough to make at first then move to more complex stuff but time is the main thing as I'll be busy. Though I can probably multitask a lot too. I can clean while dinner is cooking. That's what my mom does, she'll be cooking a huge supper, vacuum, talk on the phone, dust, and watch her soap opera, all at the same time.

It's not that big of a stretch. Most people are uncomfortable doing something they're not familiar with and cooking is pretty easy to screw up.

you people is not a racist term.

Never thought racism was intended. That would be quite a leap.

Nothing beats moreton bay bugs

Moreton bay bugs, are like the cross of a crab and a prawn and are absolutely delicious

Nice links I will do more research and would like to try them. Have you cooked them yourself?
