I finally cooked my own dinner.

Been telling myself this for a long time, and I finally did! I made oven baked marinated chicken breasts (wrapped them in foil), with rice & beans and salad on the side. It came out GREAT! I just cleaned off my plate and I'm sitting here now completely SATISFIED. I haven't felt this satisfied after eating in a while. Those bowls of cereals, microwavable pizzas, and random junk food snacks never really made me satisfied after eating them. They got the job done temporarily, but an hour later I'd be craving something again.

I had to put 2/3 of the rice&beans I made back into the fridge, along with half my salad. When I think about the amount of ingredients I used for the entire dinner, I probably used about $3 worth. Talk about money saved.

And it was fun! :D

Now I can finally start a truly healthy diet. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner now finally, all covered.

It's a good feeling, isn't it. It doesn't mean you can't do the fast stuff occaisionally. In a few years, when you get to the point where you don't always need a recipe, you'll be set.

I want to be surprised, but this is AT and I have a feeling there are people here pushing 30 that have never even cooked something that basic, so congrats.

Don't know where you're coming from. My dad, when he died at 87, could still barely make himself a cup of coffee. I would venture that over 50% of males can't or won't make their own meals. Also venture that 10-20% of females that do, shouldn't.

I love cooking when I have time in the evenings, but when I'm really busy I tend to resort to frozen stuff and fast food.

My brother is 22, born in 1987, NJ Devils fan, and dependent on our mother for cooking, doing his laundry, etc. For a second there I almost thought you might be him, but then I saw your domains for sale. No way he could figure out how to register a domain name.

Good point.

I come from a family that was always working. My dad and stepmom were hardly there to cook dinner. I got bored of ramen noodles at the age of 13-14, and tried adding other things to it, like carrots and mushrooms, and the cooking fun only took off from there. My dad went to culinary school and told me lots of good things. So maybe I have an unfair advatage, but not enough to be surprised I have a full 10 years on someone cooking.

It sounds like your dad is a victim of misogyny, which also runs rampant on these boards...

I had to use a shopping trolley yesterday for the first time, (i have pushed it in the past for mum or gf, but i could take no interest in the actual pain of food shopping). It was a demeaning/demoralizing experience. I never realised how hard it is to drive on of the those things in a packed shopping mall and perv at the same time without hitting the mass of people!?

Gentlemen, welcome to life, where shopping and cooking are obligatory, irrespective of whether your gentials dangle or are internal.

You must be lieing, why must you lie!!! ... waaaahhhhh

But on a more serious note, i noticed they have those self check out machines. I refuse to use those, cause i figure that for the 6 machines, 6 people lost their jobs.

Bastard super market people make massive profits as it is.
