I don't have a gun yet, so...

i sleep with my kabar next to me. wife thinks im nuts. its within reach if anyone breaks in i guess. is this pathetic?

anyone else keep knives or bats around for protection? i am hopefully geting the shotgun next weekend.

I seriously doubt you're mentally prepared to stab someone. It's savage, messy and traumatic. A bat is a better choice than a knife.

When I first got a gun my wife thought it was kind of strange I put it in the nightstand. Now, when we leave the house she is asking me if I have it on me. When I travel without her she wants it in HER nightstand.

A bat

(and not one of these...)

With the string of break-ins and thefts in my area lately, I keep one of my folders on my nightstand.

Otherwise, I'm voting you're a little paranoid.

I keep my Kabar under my bed, 4" folding knife + 200 lumen flashlight on my nightstand, loaded rifle (AK74) in the unlocked safe, which is in my closet.

So no you're not crazy.

I have several guns, but now that I am older I seldom fire them. I have two hand guns a .22 automatic that fires long rifle cartridges and I have a .44 magnum revolver. I keep them loaded and in easy reach should someone break in. But where I live, that is highly unlikely to happen. Still, it could happen.

If you feel there is a danger of a break-in at your home, then I would get a hand gun. But if you do that I would strongly urge you to take a gun safety course. Buying a gun is one thing, knowing how to handle it safely and how to use it effectively is quite another. And always remember, if you pull the trigger, there may very well be unpleasant consequences.

How is being able to defend youself nuts? Some people like to be able to defend themselves rather than just be victims.

I think you're nuts. You need more guns.

I think you're both nuts. I just need a few I can shoot well, in the dark, disabled, under duress, and with common ammo for end of world as we know it. I've had lots maybe 200 but I usually sell them to friends when I don't feel 100% comfortable with them. In other words, it's just a tool for me like wrench which I don't go collecting either.

I wouldn't have that style of knife for self defense, unless you really know how to use a combat/straight blade knife I recommend a karambit or machete both trivial to use and inflict massive damage. Usually one stroke and it's over DOA.

I just need a few I can shoot once my amyotrophic lateral sclerosis paralyzes me from the neck down.
