It's hilarious how, four years ago, Republicans swiftboated a decorated War hero and voted for the village idiot (I know, I voted for him too). Now, they sing the veteran's name and are trying to swiftboat someone who is smart enough to solve many of the problems this country faces. Hypocrisy? No, of course not. Just politics as usual in America.

Is it as funny as how the left has attacked the "religious right" and their crazy churches for many years, but now they are defending a radical church?

So true.
The religious Right is crazy as is this Minister. Unfortunately the chance of any Candidate getting elected unless they pay lip service to some form of Christian Cult/Church is highly unlikely which is too bad. I'd prefer a leader who deals with reality, not some kind of mythical bullshit.

I was shocked to hear him talk about his white grandmother and talked about her fear of black people. What exactly is he trying to prove using his grandmother as a symbol of racism? Uncool.

I'm shocked that people are so stupid as to think he's using his grandmother as a symbol of racism.

I could careless what color his grandmother is but yet he felt it was necessary to explain she was white and had a fear of black people. Fear of black people is a polite way of saying racist.

Although I do think its pretty funny how quickly both sides flip flop when it comes to their Presidential candidate and military service. The left voted in a draft dodger for two consecutive terms, then just a few years later they attack GWB for not serving in Vietnam and go on and on about how important Kerry's military service was. That's blatant hypocrisy for both parties.

I concur. Politics as usual.

Did you not get the point that people we love do and say things we don't agree with, but you don't disown them? For all the Christian people out there I wonder how you would feel if Jesus had looked at all the bad we had said and done and said 'to hell with ya'll I am not gonna associate with any of you'.

Yeah but you don't put them on your campaign staff.

Yeah and I guess you shouldn't actively solicit their support and call them your spirtual guide either.

In this thread, people who dislike Senator Obama will try to convince themselves of his unelectability by patting each other on the back for the most specious of reasons.

I actually sort of prefer McCain because he's less likely to get all protectionist on my country, but the reasoning in this thread is a joke.

Yep, just another Corbett/Sinsear circle jerk. These guys are laughably predictable.

Typical Obotsma.

Nice try chump, where have you ever seen me pimping Obama on these boards? On the other side of the coin, Sinsear and Corbett are typical trolls. Blind as can be, eh alpha?

It's funny how so many people are offended that there are people out there who don't find Obama as the agent of "change" and "hope" that he rides. Fair enough. Excuse me for being an open minded voter and not falling in love with a Blank Slate, or a decorated War Hero, or a former First Lady.

But staying on the topic of Obama, until he does something that shows he's above this playground-scuffle between him and Clinton, he's just another politician with the appeal as the lesser evil. He is nothing more than a phenomenon, and will eventually die out on his catchphrases of hope and change when it comes down to actually dealing with issues, if he can boast any. Any other year I'd take a chance on such an unknown candidate. But given our current issues, I have no desire to give the kid the keys to the car the day he gets his license.

John served his country honorably. The fact that you would laugh at that shows just how un-american you are.

So, what would be the appropriate term for someone who risked their life to save someone else in the middle of a fire fight?

I mean, driving into machine gun and rocket fire is 'no guarding the Texas border from the Viet Cong,' but humor us...

Idiot.

Yea, he was just trying to show us what the typical white person is like. Thats just the way the typical black person thinks I guess.....

Seriously though, this whole thing makes me a little more uncomfortable with Obama. He still has my vote over McCain, but he could be handling this much better than he has been. If he keeps up with this "typical white person" bullshit then he is going to have even more problems.

Idiot.

You must've not gotten the memo from <instert political party here>, this election cycle the Republicans are supporting the war hero, it's time for the Democrats to start downplaying military service again.

I agree. Although, I'm still enjoying watching the left defend a church for once.

The Republicans have done such a great job of driving this country into the ground, the Democrats might be able to nominate a ham sandwich and still win the election.

Let's do an EV count. Obama is not going to win most of the states he won in the GE. My count: CA, OR, WA, NY, PA, NJ, (most if not all of the New England states). That isn't going to be enough to win an election.

He will not win MI or FL, or any of the states he has "won" so far. People voted for him because they couldn't stand Hillary.

In light of "Pastor-gate", I wouldn't be surprised if the Democrats lost (yeah, I know what I said in my last post). Only the Democrats could have such a golden opportunity to win the election in a landslide and F it up by either (1) nominating a candidate that everyone hates (Hillary) or (2) nominating a candidate who scares white people because of his allegiance to a racist pastor and who also scares secular folks because of his apparent seriousness about religion. Perhaps they would have been better off if Edwards had won the nomination. At this point, perhaps they'd be better off nominating a ham sandwich.

I'm a bit surprised this "Pastor-gate" story is actually gaining traction and momentum. It's dominating radio talk shows, and now I've seen several stories on it on the front pages of MSNBC and Yahoo news. It comes out of no where that the person to bring racial tensions / racial stereotyping in this campaign of all people is Obama's pastor, so I understand them being blindsided, but is the Obama campaign doing any serious damage control at all?
