Americans don't want to see that shit. It's too complicated.

Hey, that's pretty enlightening. Puts the God damn America remark in context. Funny as its sorta what the Paul people are saying about "blowback," except its more God will strike America down for arrogance and sinful behavior towards people, rather than a man made reaction from pissed off people in other countries.... God toppled the mightest empires of Rome and Britain for their behavior against people, and God will do the same to America if we don't fly right.

Eh, not that different really than what a bunch of white conservative protestants say about God striking down America (like on 9/11 and Katrina) for its attitudes towards gays/ feminists/ ACLU/ abortionists, etc.
Ironically these are the people most stammering about Wright's comments when they are prolly more closely cut from the same cloth than they'd ever admit.

Absolutely. Just as in life, it's always the people that are the same that can't stand each other. Opposite attracts and the same repels.

No because it does not change the fact the Church is based on a Black Theology that desires the death of the White Race.

Dr. Wright?s talking points (3.1.7) for Trinity United Church of Christ its Web site and the Black Value System

One of the biggest gaps in knowledge that causes the kind of ignorance that you hear spouted by this man [Erik Rush] and those like him, has to do with the fact that these persons are completely ignorant when it comes to the Black religious tradition. The vision statement of Trinity United Church of Christ is based upon the systematized liberation theology that started in 1969 with the publication of Dr. James Cone?s book, Black Power and Black Theology.

wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Hal_Cone

Dr. Cone has explained the his theology as follows[1],[2],[3]

Black theology refuses to accept a God who is not identified totally with the goals of the black community. If God is not for us and against white people, then he is a murderer, and we had better kill him. The task of black theology is to kill Gods who do not belong to the black community. . . . Black theology will accept only the love of God which participates in the destruction of the white enemy. What we need is the divine love as expressed in Black Power, which is the power of black people to destroy their oppressors here and now by any means at their disposal. Unless God is participating in this holy activity, we must reject his love.

This would be the same theology Obama has been a part of for 20 years as well.

It says right in his statement that it's based upon not a replica of. Black empowerment is what you get what you disenfranchise a group of people for a long period of time. Pushing for strength in the black community does not equate to racism. He also states in that same page:
To have a church whose theological perspective starts from the vantage point of Black liberation theology being its center, is not to say that African or African American people are superior to any one else.

I truly don't understand your perspective. It's extremely narrow and purposefully ignorant.

You must've not gotten the memo from <instert political party here>, this election cycle the Republicans are supporting the war hero, it's time for the Democrats to start downplaying military service again.

Your irrelevant jab at the Dems is noted and summarily ignored. But please feel free to explain why you feel it's germane in regard to some idiot mocking Kerry's service and actually living up to the definition of a "hero."

The collective right-wing sensitivities towards military service would be easier to take seriously had you all placed your distaste with the AWOL/chickenhawk crowd instead of those who had the balls to go get shot at. Eight years ago conservatives were cracking jokes to each other over McCain being "too crazy to handle the football," but now the same guy is suddenly the real military McCoy...

*sigh*

It's called fear. Obama has and is moving mountains, politically speaking. This curiously irrelevant story is all they have and they're gonna squeeze it for all it's worth.

The very fact it is based on hating and blaming the White Race for everything wrong in the black community. That it is based on calls for the destruction of the White man by any means necessary makes it extremely narrow and purposefully ignorant and absolutely racist.

It is just another avenue that perpetuates the ?all White mans fault? stigma, and exacerbates the racial gap between Blacks and Whites. Which by the way are never going to get better unless these perpetuations are stopped and the Black man stops fixating blame on Whitey for every damn thing and starts putting it where it belongs.

I hope this is not another case of not knowing the whole story. Have you read this book? The quote you show above says something about 'destroying their oppressors'. I didn't see any mention of white people. I personally think that you saw those snippets and jumped to conclusions. Can you point to a link (i.e. video or a quote from an official source, for example a book he has written or the official transcript from a sermon of his) where Dr. Wright made the statement you 'quoted'? I would like to see it.

If you are talking about that 'talking points' page, I don't see anything on that page that says 'Jesus was a poor black man etc'. So please point me to where Dr. Wright said the quote above.

I'm not going to quote it...if you really wanna be pissed at something at least read the entire statement and realize the man was dealing in race realtions in general....I don't see how somebody cannot understand that....

I will say this....

Seriously though, I think that statement by Obama let his true feelings slip through;

Obama: Grandma 'Typical White Person' Fearing Everyone She Doesn't Know

The point I was making was not that my grandmother harbors any racial animosity. But she is a typical white person. If she sees somebody on the street that she doesn't know. . .there's a reaction in her that doesn't go away and it comes out in the wrong way.

When he says this about typical white people he is prejudging all white people, which makes him prejudice by definition.

I think all you Obama haters just see what you want to see. He's a secret muslim terrorist, he's a drug dealer, he hates America, and now he's a militant black Christian who hates all whites (inc the family who loved and raised him.) ...no contradictions in those trains of thought...

If you approached the issue with any sort of rational sensibility rather than over-emotional paranoia, then maybe you'd have some credibility on the issue. Have fun getting lead around by the nose by media sensationalism and superficial soundbites.

I'll take this to mean you're passing on the explanation.

You proved my point, thanks.

How so?

I could have said the exact same thing as you 4 years ago...

"The collective left-wing sensitivities towards military service would be easier to take seriously had you all placed your distaste with the AWOL/chickenhawk crowd (Bill Clinton dodged the draft, remember?) instead of those who had the balls to go get shot at."

Yes, you could have said that...and sounded incredibly ignorant. Clinton wasn't up for election 4 years ago, and him not being a cowardly hawk really screws up your comparison as well. Clinton dodging the draft over moral grounds when he was a student is the exact same thing as a chickenhawk who supports war but can't be bothered to stop failing out of school to join in said war? Right.

Since you missed it earlier, "Context matters."

I feel like I should try and get a sticky thread made or something where it's titled "All the people claiming white people aren't scared of black people read this".

As I've mentioned several other places, this fear reaction is SCIENTIFICALLY PROVEN TO EXIST. It doesn't make you a bad person for having the feeling, but it's there. Obama knows this, every rational person in America knows this. Hell, I have this feeling myself. When he says the typical white person has this fear, he is speaking a fact. If you don't like facts, I'm sorry.
