so i've gone crazy. i figure i dont play any games anymore anyway.

but i am selling my msi 6800 card because i read that nvidia sued a website using the dmca becuase of the SLI patch.

that is ridiculous.

after the whole AEG , pay for forum posts thing i thought i could live with it. this is just too much. i am now using gma 950 onboard video. a small part of me feels good about this.

i am not sure if it is possible to make a stand against nvidia over abusing the dmca. but well if anyone wants to join me, you are welcome to.

You go friend. The industry would be a heck of alot better off if more people would do like you are doing and put their money where their mouth is. I wish I would do the same, its just a hard stance to stand by with so many huge companies controlling so much (If we all did what was right would boycott M$, Sony, Intel, and so many more, but its hard to do whats right with the way the industry is at the moment, but two thumbs up for trying friend :) )

well i really just am against the dmca. even though intel msft etc have done some bad things, i can tolerate them. the dmca thing and the aem "guerilla marketing" fake forum posters, well that basically is about as low as it has gotten

The DMCA is a load of crap anyway. It does, however, give companies a chance to show thier true character by giving them the chance to conduct unethical business. It's a shame so many have fallen to the level of using it.

they are using the dmca, which was meant mostly to protect things like music from being pirated due to copyright infringement, and saying that by hosting the sli patch that it is infringing on the copyright of their sli drivers.

it wasnt meant to do that. this is about as bad in my mind as the companies that said the dmca is ok to use against the sites that posted ads early for black friday. same sort of thing as what apple does to the apple rumor sites.

i dont even go to that site , i just saw a headline that nvidia was using the dmca for the you cant spread a driver asrock had posted becasue it is breaking our driver "threat" . hacked drivers should not be something nvidia can bully people into not hosting or making with the dmca not to mention they are just hosting a driver that asrock created.

apparently from reading the letter they got. it means basically that by using the SLI patch and using it on other chipsets. you are circumventing their anti circumvention technology , so its like breaking drm i guess. that and you are ruining the trademark SLI since it is used on a non nvidia SLI chipset. so they bullied the site into taking the patch down.

dude get a x800gt/gto or x1800gto/x1600xt ... way better than inbuilt graphics. and you harm nvidia more by going to a competitor. and post in the nvida's officail forums about this. maybe then they'll stop using such methods.

Believe it or not, the DMCA was actually a TELECOMMUNICATIONS bill that had all this copyright crap thrown in. There was pressure to add the wording that has been screwing us out of fair use for the last 8 years. You can prolly guess where it came from.

In school we had a class almost entirely dedicated to what the ramifications of the DMCA would be, and this is one of the things predicted.

EDIT per proofreading incompetence

Hans, you might as well then throw away every piece of computer equipment and electronic parts that you own. Then become Amish. But I don't think you could deal with doing that. I know I couldn't. I want my toys.

So those are not ATI Grapics Cards then?? skooma assessed you correctly imo.

hans, good for you. Nice to see someone sticking up for their principles. Intel GMA 950 is fine until you load something 3D intensive like a game or CAD/CAM work, still good enough for 2D work & watching DVD's etc.

don't hate the player. hate the game. hate the people who drafted the dmca, not the companies that use it.

i can't rip the nvidia gpu out of my laptop and i wouldn't if i could, because there is really no reason to. however if you'd like to send me an x1900xt i'll gladly send you my 7900gt in my gaming pc and you can destroy it or sell it or whatever you want. :D

What I meant is I dont have ATI products in my sig just to have ATI products there. I have them there because they're hot deals right now, and I prefer ATI over competitors as well.
