I am really confused with all the commotion and new cards right now...

Don't waste $$ on R290X or 780Ti. Both are horribly overpriced in comparison to the R290.

But wait for custom models, it should run cooler, quieter, using less power (http://ht4u.net/reviews/2013/arctic_accelero_xtreme_iii_meets_amd_r9_290/index6.php) and give you more OC headroom.. for ~$400 its just too good compared to the other much more expensive options.

IF you want to spend more, 2x R290 in the new CF config will brutalize the rest for its price.

There is also the recently reduced price GTX780 also.

I'm sure the OP would be fine with either a standard GTX780 or an R9290 4GB.
The faster models of both are expensive and probably more than he needs.

4k does have scaling issues and is a known issue!

True. Being Nvidia I'm sure the issue will be resolved post haste (unless it's a bandwidth limit of the SLI bridge).

The 1440p charts break down as follows:

Metro LL - 290X = 53%, 780 = 41%, and 780Ti = 46%

Crysis 3 - 290X = 69%, 780 = 78%, and 780Ti = 61%
