I almost died. Just spent 3 days in ICU.

Yep, and they missed twice. So they poked me 3 times. :(

The headaches when I sit up and/or stand are STILL killing me a week later.

I told my dr that next time they want to do a spinal tap, just treat me for what they think I have instead. I will NEVER have another lumbar. NEVER!

Hey, glad you to see you are alright though!
Viral meningitis is a bitch.
While I've never officially had it, I'm fairly confident in my own self diagnosis, that I did indeed have it.
A week of completely debilitating headaches, fever, and then below-normal temp (normal is 97.5ish, i had a 96.5! and that was tested a few times to make sure I wasn't fucking it up somehow). This was accompanied with a neck so stiff I've never had that any worse, dizziness at times and nausea at times (though never vomited), and a few other symptoms. Generally had some flu-like symptoms accompanied with the worst head/neck pains of my life. After a week, the flu-like went away, and the headache started to go down a little bit, but for the next month and a half the headache persisted, though slowly going down to the point of being just 'there' and not having much of an impact of daily functioning.

Had x-rays and a CT scan, and later was going to get an MRI but decided against as time went on. Nothing, anywhere. Neck, sinuses, head... completely stumped the doctors. Never had a spinal tap done, so maybe I'm just giving too much weight to that theory and the doctors thought the symptoms couldn't possibly match.

Was thinking it was cluster headaches, but I've never had a headache last for multiple weeks yet, and it's been about three years since that episode. It sucked terribly, but no idea what it was.

Wow, I had symptoms like that too! But it was when I went into P&N. :p

Actually, besides the spinal tap, my meningitis symptoms have been very mild so far.

Actually, I quit drinking a few months ago. Never had a problem with alcohol, but drinking always led to me having a cigarette or cigar and that made me feel like crap for days (I quit smoking years ago).

Funny how when I quit all the bad things, I almost die. I should have just kept drinking AND smoking, huh? LOL

It is good you went for that peer-reviewed diagnosis! :p

Things have been rough for you these last few months and I am sorry to hear that your mom passed away. I lost track of that other thread and did not hear the outcome until now.

It seems you will have a long road to recovery but hopefully you will be back in the weightroom a year from now.

I wish you well.

I'm disappointed you went to the ER before seeking advice from the amazing knowledge base of ATOT. :|

If you had come here first you might not have had to spend 3 days in the ICU....i hope you learned your lesson! :|

Ugh, a fever of 104.5 is painful.

Some virus of death went around the dorms my sophomore year and one of the guys in my hall was taken to the ER with a 104.3F fever. I just drank lots of water and toughed it out.... thought I was going to die (literally could not sleep because of the fever)

Damn son, that's crazy. Glad to hear you're ok.

It's too bad it's so hard to trust some doctors these days. My friend almost died from a heart attack because the doctor excused it as nothing.

Good luck with your recovery.

Amused:

I just finished reading this thread. Wow! I've only been reg'd here a few weeks but have been reading these boards for years. I recently reg'd when I got banned over at HardOCP. (Stupid FuzeTawk goes crazy with the H in brackets!)

Anyways, glad to hear you're going to be OK. Meningitis is nothing to fool with. You also seem to be the type that takes better care of yourself than others for sure. A 104+ fever at your age is no laughing matter! That would've scared the crap out of me. Definitely get some R&R and follow up. I don't want to be reading a thread about something bad happening to you!

Phew, Amused, you've definitely been through the wringer and back again.

Take care of yourself (I know you will). I want you around to disagree with for a long, long time! ;)

I think there's a procedure to fix the headaches if they don't go away soon, see Text. It's called an "epidural blood patch". Fixes it right up, well, at least it did for my sister-in-law and a few other women folk my wife has talked to.

Hope everything else goes well too.
