I absolutely hate thieves....daughter's (and another) phone stolen.

Is there a security camera in the area? Perhaps the thief taking the stuff is on tape somewhere? What kind of loss prevention does the place she works have?

Let me stop you right there... Pics?

edit: nvm, I have them right here... on the phone I stole!!! PROFIT!

You know, when I saw the title this was the first thing I thought. Then I'm looking at the preceding comments and dont see any humor, and I'm thinking I'm gonna have to be the ahole to post it..then I see your post. Thank you good sir, for doing what needed to be done.

Yeah our house got robbed while we were at Disney World last year. They also vandalized it in a number of ways. I feel bad for your daughter but at least you didn't have to move because of thieves.

Sounds like the car would probably be more secure. My only worry would be the potential heat that could damage the phone.

At my previous job, we couldn't bring our phones inside, but they had these plastic bins that we could put them in. I felt a little wary using them, but I did anyway. My phone was never stolen nor were there any accounts of it. However, that might just be a difference between the work environments... I work with a bunch of other engineers.

Answers to questions:

No, she cannot carry a phone on her during work.
No, there are no security cameras.
No, there is no secure area to store their items (purse, phone, etc.) during work.
No, the parking lot is not secure enough to store the items (purse, phone, etc.) in a car.

Did I miss anyone?

I am just really pissed that someone took something. I see robbers almost every morning on the news and it really pisses me off to no end. Now it happens to my family, and I'm going bonkers.

But I was a little surprised as to how well Verizon handled my account so far including upgrades and stuff.

I leave mine in the car all the time under the seat or something especially for work since it is annoyingly distracting and there isn't a good place to leave it just laying around at work. It really should have failed to pass a common sense check to leave the phone unsecured honestly =/. A general purpose area that people leave their phones is just about the worst idea ever. When I DO leave my phone unattended its somewhere no one really would check, like my mailbox or something.

The lower in the car the less heat, so under the seat is really good if its in the sun. If you are in Arizona or something than you are SOL.

Where the hell does she work?!

I'd be more concerned for my kid's safety at that joint than a silly phone.

It'd be nice to go back to the old fashioned "lob your hand off with a really big sword" method of dealing with thieves. Betcha that petty theft goes down pretty quickly.

Maybe she should have stored it in a secure location.

ding ding ding

She should've never left it in an unsecure location.

In this case, it's a $600 lesson (could've been worse).

Thieves do suck though.

Anyways, she is an adult now and this is really nothing for you to worry about. Lesson she has to learn. I'm sure she will survive without her phone (don't worry).

Heck, she is probably better off without it. 🙂

Goddamn ATOT

It's not her fault. You had to suspect this place would react like this. I've left my iPhone unsecured lots of times. Hidden in my shoe while I ice skate or play soccer, in the pocket of my pants while I'm swimming, etc. People that are out there living real lives have to take these kinds of risks sometimes.

Apple should really put that locate my iPhone thing default on all its phones. I would love to see some of these dickheads get nailed.

She is a hostess at a mid-scale Italian restaurant.

Bleh. In that case I think I'd just keep my $600 phone in my pocket, even if it was turned off. Not like you are working in some top secret facility or dealing with sensitive information (patient health for example).

If the employer has a problem with it, tell them to f'off until they can provide secured lockers for staff.

They'd likely tell her to not bring the phone to work.

My employees just leave their smart phones on the counter in the breakroom. Never heard anyone saying they got their shit stolen.

I'll suggest that she get a holster and keep it on her side if she takes it with her again (assuming she gets another).

A small valuable item should be kept secret or on your person at all times.

Maybe buy her a stylish holster as a consolation present.

It depends on the workplace I suppose.

Personally I'd look into the Windows phones. Perhaps less likely to get stolen as it's "less desireable"
