Heh I do agree with you the media has been hoping for a Katrina since it happened. And 7 years of really light Hurricane seasons hasnt helped them much. But i think this has a potential to be a disaster

Storm surge is more akin to tidal change than to waves. Waves break, storm surge does not. Also there is a high tide coinciding with the storm, so it will be bad.

Retarded. 10' waves are not the same as 10' storm surge. Which is compounded on top of what, a 6' high tide? The water is already flooding into battery park city and the storm isn't even there yet. Water is going to get into the subway and electrical systems and fuck everything up. NYC is the biggest vortex of compromise I've ever seen in the construction of a city. They'll probably have some very real problems after this.

In fairness, I'm a socal native that just moved back from manhattan...I was there for hurricane Irene, and it was lame. This has the potential to be a lot worse though.

What nor easter, The jet stream carrying a high pressure cold air truff from NW colliding with a a warmer weather low pressure . The only nor easter involved here is people comparring this hurricane to that of a nor easter, Than the other front that ran inland along the eastern and southeastern states . Its not a perfect storm as perfection is hard to obtain . That and the timing . A perfect storm on eastern states would effect me in MN . Thats not happening for a year or there abouts
