152 knot wind observed = 172 mph. 10% correction factor = 154.8 mph. That's from the latest recon. If that is sustained and not a gust then we've got a Cat. 5, folks.

Hopefully it doesnt veer up and hit dallas. Imagine it knocked out ThePlanet datacenter?

Don't know much about Hurricanes, huh? 😉

Close to water, cannon fodder.
Close to land, let it stand.

What the hell are you talking about? The current NHC forecast has it directly over Dallas a day after landfall. How could it "veer" and hit it any harder? Dallas is landlocked...

There is bound to be some serious tornadic activity all throughout Tejas. Hopefully it will hit my apartment and I can sue someone 🙂

Also, in the other thread someone asked what happens when they run out of letters for named storms. The answer is they revert to the Greek alphabet, "Alpha", "Beta", "Gamma", etc..

This has never happened. The closest time was 1933 when there were 21 named storms. Note, there are only 21 names allocated per season. They remaining names this year are Stan, Tammy, Vince and Wilma. Source.

Its getting close only four names left....

Edit: i refuse to post in the Rita stickie thread anymore...

The way the season has been going, its a pretty good bet we will wrap around. The *official* hurricane season ends Nov 30. Luckily, its pretty quiet other than Phillipe and Rita right now, according to NHC. Text

Latest Recon : Pressure 923mb winds of 145mph ( 142 knots -10%)

Latest Dropsonde shows a pressure 922mb. Pressure has dropped to that from 973mb at 5pm yesterday.

Funny. My Mom's name was Rita. She passed away 20 years ago. My mom's brother is Phillip who lives in Miami.

Dallas was going to veer. Cat 4 landfaller and 9.0 earthquake simulataneously.

Thanks for the updates Mill. Was reading the 11am discussion and saw NHC was not confirming a 5 as they were waiting for HH recon to arrive.

Are you one of the ex-surfer crew?
