Also oil speculation is making oil/gas prices go back up. So fill your tanks ASAP as the price will probable go above $3 a gallon again.

It WILL go up if everyone decides to fill up RIGHT NOW.

It looks like one of the guys that I work with has already done his mandatory evacuation to who knows where. My wife and I live in Spring - about 60 miles from Galveston and 40 miles from the nearest gulf coast, I believe- so I'm not sure what we're gonna do just yet.

Thank goodness we have all the supplies we need.

This will be my last post in this thread from the Houston area, Good luck to all of you in the projected path.
Be safe, take care and try and GTFO.

I live in West Houston. We're planning to either stay in Dallas or drive all the way up to my in laws place in Nebraska.

If they close down Harris County (or evacuate), then I am getting the h311 out of here, but otherwise, just store up water and food, and you will be fine.

"Houston, we have a problem!"

Sorry, just had to do that. 😛 Latest predictions show its headed straight at Houston. And gaining strenght. Making landfall as strong cat 4 atleast.

🙁

DVORAK T-Numbers showing 143kt winds and a pressure of 917. Cat 5. No recon for awhile now, so we will have to wait and see. I really doubt a landfall of a Cat 5. Probably a Cat. 4 at worst -- the Western Gulf isn't as warm as the Central.

Seeing as how it's supposed to reach 98 fricken' degrees here in Houston today, I would have to challenge you on that. 🙁

i don't think land temp has as much to do with water temps considering currents, topography, etc.

It doesn't, although the SST's I looked will change over the next few days. There are a couple of pockets of cooler water that the storm may pass over, so it looks good that it won't be able to land as above a Cat. 4. With some shear it could get down to a strong Cat 3. which will be damaging, but not as bad as the alternative.

Houston Mayor Bill White has announced that all downtown businesses should be shut down on Thursday and Friday.

They are predicting 60mph sustained winds, massive thunderstorms, and possibly tornados on Saturday in my area, Fort Worth TX. That's ~300 mi. inland.

WOW :Q

edit: Oh, my company owns several downtown buildings in the Houston area, we have alread closed them.

I love being on the west coast. Good luck to everyone down by Texas.

Ya know, if one raindrop hits New Orleans again...
