Well, since so many of you are so much smarter than those who called for evacuations for Irene, let's see how you do on this one.

Where's Hurricane Katia going to hit, and what will be the intensity when it does hit. (My prediction: it'll actually become a hurricane.)

Aug 30 update: Happy Birthday Katia, named this morning, and the National Hurricane Center now expects it to develop into a major hurricane by this weekend, still heading west northwest. Very good chance that a developing weather patterns will steer it right toward the US. 5 days away is a long time though; anything can happen.

Aug 31 update: Katia is now a hurricane. It became one Sept 1 (in it's time zone; Aug 31 in EST). Of 12 tropical depressions, this was the first one I predicted would turn into a hurricane. That makes me 1-0. What's Dave's record?

Well, so far all of the models have it pointed towards Florida.. Obviously it is still too early to have any real idea but damn I want some days off school
 
I predict Katia will become nothing more than a tropical storm, and will stay out to sea, with only minor effects to anyone.

I just hope it doesn't come here. We just had Irene pass directly through us a week ago as a 70MPH TS and we didn't have electricity for two-and-a-half days and we had many of fallen trees and power lines. Classes at the university were cancelled for three days, too, so now we have a lot of work (which I already did in Friday, but still).

I preditct that katia will try to buy bulk (alternator sized) quantities of vinegar, then be disuaded by all the governemnt forms she will have to fill out, which will cause her to blame a government conspiracy that wishes to monitor citizens

Ah hurricane season. It's the time when I realize that the snow that's coming in a month from now is not so bad after all. At least I get to keep my house after it's all over. :biggrin:

I think after the recent events, Kahdaffi would have a hard time riding in on a crack whore, let alone a krakken...
